Hey guys, I'm debating these two cards for my next upgrade. I'm not intreasted in AMD this time so please no 290/270 suggestions.
So the 770 4GB is $400 and the 780 ti is $700. I'm leaning towards the 770 and going SLI in a couple months.
The big reason for the upgrade is my 560 ti's are aging and losing in 1200p and keeping fps over 30 consistently. Also I want to get dual 24" G-Sync monitors, hence my need for a 7 seriesuupgrade.
Which should I go with? I've enjoied the slightly lesser cards, 275s, 470s, and 560s. Should I go with the 770 4GB?

Ti all the way. Beastly performance, beastly overclockers and can then be sli'd when the time is right or you see another one for cheap on cl or eBay

I'm seriously considering getting one and have also being weighing up pros and con's.

The 770 isn't really a lesser card, its an improvement on the previous top of the line card, the 680.

At $400 its a good price, I'd go with that, the extra $300 doesn't get you that much more. Just turn the AA down a bit and enjoy that extra $300 in your pocket.

I bought a 770 4GB card because I think it is pure lunacy to spend $700 on a GPU, heck, $400 still isn't chump change. For what it's worth, I'm hoping that the 4GB will actually matter when I decide to go SLI. As it is, the 256k bus pretty much hinders a single 770 from using much more than 2 GB.

Get an R9 290 or 290X windforce or Tri-x. AMD is better at higher resolutions the R9 290 is better than a GTX 780 even when both are OCed. For ultimate performance the GTX 780 Ti is the go to card.

Go for the 780ti,the added 2gb on a 770/680/670 does nearly nothing to performance and that has already been proven over and over.

Get the 770. For 1200 p and lower, the TI is extreme overkill.

BTW, I have a TI

Ok, missed that part. Go for the TI if you are going to do a multi-monitor set-up. The +$700 price sucks balls, but the GPU strength is awesome

Nobody plays a game stretched over 2 monitors, it's used for extra desktop area while working or while gaming for teamspeak, maps or hardware temps and stats.
I'd go with 770 because 780 Ti price drop will hurt more when big Maxwell comes out. Sell 770 month before big maxwell comes out and buy 780 Ti when price drops.
IMO why mess with SLI at all when it's 1200p without third monitor.

Is that why he is willing the pay the a price premium for two G-sync monitors when he will only game on one?

We should ask OP. If he/she is planning for surround gaming down the road, than it's 780 Ti. Put second one in SLI after the price drops because of Maxwell launch.

If you're willing to drop $800 on two G-Sync monitors, when they come out, then what's the point of discussing a 770 vs 780 and their prices? In my opinion there's no reason to buy a GK104 chip right now, and you would be better off opting for a simple 780 (You can get them used for $400-450 on eBay which is a good price vs performance deal). The price difference between a 780 and its TI version just isn't worth it for the minimal performance increase you'll see. If you need an upgrade that badly, get a cheap/used 760 ($180-200) until the 8 series come out on the *new* architecture and go with whatever the high-end card will be. People underestimate the 760. I had one in another machine OC'd nicely and playing BF4 on high settings with 90 fps.

Thank you everyone for your discussion, I appreciate the responses. For now I've decided to go with one 780 Ti and just one monitor. I havn't decided if I want to go with a single 27" 1440p or a 24" 1080p @ 144Hz response. Either way I want high frame rates for gaming with as much AA/eye candy as possible.

For those that suggest AMD, thank you but I'm not interested. I've owned both types of cards and I prefer Nvidia.

As for the time old situation; buy now or wait for the latest stuff... It's always been like that and what I've found is if you have the money to spend and want an upgrade do it. Buyers remorse sucks but so does waiting 3-6 months for the latest gear and then possibly not having the funds to buy it. Go for it if you can and dont kick yourself later. The trends seem to only be 10-25% improvements every cycle so upgrading every year just doesn't make sense to me.

Have in mind that all 120-144 Hz monitors use TN matrix which has poorer viewing angles and color reproduction. Some rare IPS monitors can be overclocked to 96 Hz.

A single 27" 1440p IPS monitor would be a great match for performance single 780 Ti offers:

Maybe even keep your Asus 1200p 26" monitor as a second one

Plus, the prices have been bouncing around lately due to competition in key price points, but as someone who went from a 580 to 680 to my present 780, I can assure you that the prices I hoped would drop, never did. Only now is the 680ftw card going for less than the $560 I paid.

And for a single 1440p monitor, the OP would have been very happy just grabbing a 780. I bought a stock one with the ACX cooler, and I have a 1440p, and I can play everything a 780 ti can, with almost all the same settings. Only Assassin's Creed makes my card cry, and it does the same for a 780 ti!

EDIT: Almost forgot the most important reason I love this 780; the boost clock rings up the same boost as a SC card, going to 993mhz instead of the normal 902mhz.

Also, these S. Korean monitors are great! for $312 delivered, and no dead pixels, I'm very happy.
