The case in question will be a Fractal Design Define R3,
I've been looking at the Noctua NH-14, but I have my doubts that it'll fit in the case, I'm not intending to overclock (much), and I would like a cooler which will be Ivy Bridge compatible, and hopefully keeping temps down at 30-35 degrees celcius at 50-60% load (non-oc'ed)
(Low noise would also be a plus)

I'm open to suggestions, as long as you give a little description/reason for your pick! :)
PS: I forgot to mention I live in Denmark, and not all coolers are available here unfortunately, but I will check accordingly.

1156 holes = 1155 holes for mounting;)

The A70 is nowhere near the overall size of the D-14.

You aren't going to find any air cooler that will provide you with 30-35 @60% load, hell I'm going to throw it out there and say it, that will likely be your idle temp. unless you live in a freezer;)

Let me just specify to SB chips for that. With the die shrink it may be possible on a IB chip. I haven't played with one of those yet, so I can't say for sure it isn't feasible.

Yeah...I know I'm on the 1366 platform, but at load with the Venomous X-RT from Thermalright I probably idle between 36*C and 40*C, and load I'm looking at 63*C tops with ambient temps sitting at 75*F. Complete change in all temperatures moving from AMD.

Ah, I thought they were slightly different with the holes. Alright, I can live with those temps I guess, wasn't aware that Intel ran hotter than AMD, used to my Phenom running pretty cool :p
Not its smaller.

Peets right. Intel temps are much higher than amd. you would need some ice water cooling to get down below those temps
Cheers, I guess this might very well be my new cooler, funnily this exact cooler cost the same as the Hyper 212 Plus, but seems to outperform it in every way :D didn't even know it existed, cheers!

At least it sounds like it will hopefully go in the positive direction (downwards in temps), I guess I could live with the temps, considering they seem to be "normal" for Intel. I haven't had an Intel setup since Core 2 duo E8400 :)

Do you not want to go with any Corsair watering? they will most likely come out with a working solution.

By the way not all Intels are hot

Well the A70 is going to allow you to do just about anything you need on SB chips. I use a Swiftech Polaris 120 air cooler for my 2600K and it does just fine. The Swifty is slightly better than the A70, but it will set you back near $50-60 where it seems you are getting the A70 for half the price.

Only real issue is that I wouldn't call the fans on the A70 silent or near it:( (same is said for my swifty too)

I'd rather stay away from water cooling for now. My old E8400 also ran pretty cool with an aftermarket cooler in idle, just not in load.

Ah, thats good to know in advance, I was hoping for silent fans, but then again, I'm pretty sure it's much less noisy then what I'm used to, e.g. a stock cooler or cooler master hyper 212 plus in a very cheap open case. Hopefully the Fractal R3 will also block some of the noise.
The Swiftech 120 could possibly fit into my budget as long as it fits in the case, however I'm pretty sure they aren't sold in Denmark...it looks neat nevertheless

Edit: Found it, only available in one store for 90$ (converted) whereas the A70 will cost 51$
