hmm I know JR has a 8600 and he loves the thing. Been playing the good games pretty well. I haven't seen anything on the 2600's so I'd go with the 8600gt. IMO

assuming you play @ 1280X1024 or so the 8600GT beats the 2600XT by around 10fps in every game.

check toms VGA charts the two cards you listed are shown exactly and the 8600GT has ~70FPS lead in overall game FPS....

if you play @ 1024X768 the 2600XT wins overall but anything over that and the 8600GT creams it in most games. not to mention the 8600GT is known to oc to GTS levels which gives you around 200FPS overall lead over the 2600XT

heres toms charts

^^ If I didn't have to get a new psu that wouldve been the card I would have got.

@Cold Storm

And to add, I am loving this 8600GT. It's too bad this wasn't a 512MB version or it would max a few of my games @ 1440x900. But no regrets here!

8600GT > 2600XT, only marginally, until overclocking is taken into account, then the lead just increases, considering an 8600GTS w00ps a 2600XT and its a sinch to exceed GTS core speeds on a GT.

if it can be found cheap enough i'd reccommend an 8600GT as ive owned 4 (still have 2) and they absolutely fly with some pencil modding, Scrizz and i have the same cards pretty much, and with pencil mods we have both gotten them to around the same speed. so you get a cheap, relatively fast, cool running card.

if you have the cash to spare then the move to a 9600GT or 8800GS, they would be like double the performance of an 8600GT. but they also require a good PSU as they need a PCI-E power connector and the 8600GT draws eveerything it needs from the slot itself, even rock solid at 900mhz core artifact scan :D

You only need about 400 watts to run a 8800gs/9600gt.

My previous PSU still wasn't up to snuff for that either.

I agree with shadowfold the 3850 has much greater performance, and the price difference is minimal.

hmm well from all what iv seen i think it would be better to go with the 3850 or even the 8800GT but the only problem is that i live outside the states and even tough i have the cash but the products are crazily overpirced here .

if i can find someone to buy the card for me and ship it to morocco it would be great i will pay for the card and shippment so no worries ^^ . im so interested in the EVGA 8800GT since it would fairly priced compared to whats available here .

can anyone of you voulenteer ? someone mature and able to handle the responsability and hey btw the Evga8800gt on newegg is like -30 bucks with rebate i can spare that for the good man :)

and oh yeah how much psu power does the 8800gt need to run fine ?

i would be fine doing that

and you can run a 8800GT on a good 500w and the 3850 on a good 400w
