My motherboard does not have M.2 or mSata interfaces, only sata 6gb or pci-e.

Therefore, pci-e are excluded because they are too expensive, so I'm left with sata. Between Crucial mx500, Samsung 860 evo and Samsung 860 qvo, which one would be the best pick.

Prices here are around 180 for crucial, 220 for samsung evo and 170 for samsung qvo.

Most important for me are reliability and consistency, I'd like for the ssd to work for at least 5 years.

If there are any other brands of ssd you think would be better, say it.

I do not mind paying the extra 40$ for the samsung if it will last me longer and perform better.

Thank you.

I bourght a 2TB Crucial MX500 SSD about 1 month ago, to host games on and it works like a charm for me. I let the price deside for me, and Crucial has better prices than Samsung.

Easily the MX500, better data protection than the 960 Evo, same performance as the 960 Evo, and cheaper than the 960 Evo.

The 960 QVO is eliminated instantly because it is QLC, which had a lower endurance than TLC. And with the MX500 only $10 more, it makes no sense.

Benchmark Scores Don't know any benchmark. It runs good enough for me.
I agree with all that is said go with TLC or better yet MLC ssd when possible. I always prefer Crucial they are just reliable with a consistent performance and have good price. Go for whichever is cheaper Samsung or Crucial. The 860 evo or MX500 are fine. Got an Mx500 512GB on my brother's pc running pretty quick. SATA ssd is still very good as many programmes depend on Random read write which SATA 6G still can more than adequately provide.

Very well, after reviewing all options, I opted for the MX500 1tb. Thank you all for the suggestions.

The thing is .... if i switched it out for a faster one or switched it out for a slower one when I was in ya house posing as "the cable TV guy", you'd never notice. I have not yet found someone who does. Is kinda like when you do to 'see the horses' at the track, very easy to see who was the fastest as they cross the finish line, But try getting it right when they all run one at a time ... it's hopeless. :)

Of course as most of this audience has the geek / nerd gene, we are simply incapable of not pouring of test results and benchmarks doing things none of us actually will ever do so we can find the fastest unit we can possibly afford.... because we sleep better at night knowing that if we ever did unzip and rezip 1,000 files just cause, we would he ve the fastest one. :)

Threads 5 months old, but I wouldn't really worry about "other components" when its a simple SSD upgrade.
