Hi!

im going to buy a new graphics card tomorrow
because my 560ti died recently
i was thinking of the 270x and the 7950?
which is the better? (1080p gaming)
i found a his 270x for about $167(7300 philippine peso)
and a his 7950 boost for just $160(7000 philippine peso)
both are second hand cards the 270x still has 1 year 6 months warranty while the 7950 has 6 months left..
what do you think would be a better buy?
games : battlefield 4, crysis 3, watchdogs, skyrim.
thx!

Good day!

Since 7950 is basically R9 280(non x), so it's going to be faster overall :) And cheaper in Your case, so win win situation here.

Hello,

So the 7950 performs better than the 270x, but not by a huge amount. The 270x has a much lower power consumption, and the extra warranty is worth a lot if your card were to suddenly break down and you need to RMA the card. The 7950 has 3GB of RAM vs the 270x 2GB, which is probably why performance is slightly better.

I have an R9 270x, and it works great - very happy with its current performance at 1080p.

EDIT: You can read TPU's reviews of both cards here. I would look at the difference in performance of the games you mentioned, but look carefully as the cards were tested at different resolutions to each other (1080p vs 1200p):

I'd go for the 270x purely down to the fact that it has more warranty and it is only slightly slower than the 7950. IMO, the reduction in power usage (thus cooler temps) are worth it in this comparison. A 270x overclocked will beat a 7950 pretty easily especially at 1080p gaming.

270x skyrim performance;

270x bf3 performance (no bf4 in this review);

270x crisis 3 performance;

A standard 7950 is also in the charts for comparison.

i had a 7950 and yet i use a R9 270X i second any in this thread who recommend the R9 270X over the 7950 ;)

and i play the same games as you do without any problems with my actual main rig.
my R9 270X is also a 2nd hand one and run like a charm (OC 1125/1600)

i still cant decide what to buy. the warranty confuses me. :l

The warranty basically means that the manufacturer guarantees that they'll provide a functioning unit for a number of years, and if it doesn't function correctly that you can return it to the manufacturer or the reseller (i.e. Amazon) for a new unit. One thing to look out for in warranties is if you're buying from an auction-related site (i.e. eBay), whether the manufacturer covers you, as some won't accept warranty/RMA claims if the item was sold through an auction site. But a longer warranty is very important in case the graphics card breaks IMO.

Personally, I'd probably go for the 7950 as it is a little faster. I normally don't worry about a warrantee as I've only managed to actually kill one video card ever, a NVidia MX 440. And it died within a month of me buying it new, which lead to me getting my very first "enthusists" video card, the Ti 4200.

7950, my past experience with electronics tells me that if the thing is going to break, its either going to break within a few months, or it will last for quite some time.

Based on what people have said, it seems if you're more concerned about raw performance, go for the 7950. If you would prefer a lower power consumption, and a longer failsafe if the card breaks, go for the 270x. The choice is up to you.
