Hi, im have an old crappy PC laying down by the side of my desk at home not being used and i decided that why dont i start having a crack at getting this thing in reasonably good spec. I woluld like it 2 have a PCI Express Graphics Card and a fairly descent MB and Processor (Dual Core if possible) etc. so in other words i want a Pc that has the old AGP to come into todays standards. Im on a moderate budget and wondered if you guys could help at all. Any suggested greatly appreciated. Thanks

What about something like this:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939)
Asus A8N-VM CSM Micro ATX (Socket 939)
Corsair 1GB DDR XMS3200C2PT Platinum CAS2
Sapphire X1600 XT 256MB GDDR3 AVIVO TV-Out/DVI (PCI-Express)
Asus TA-210 Series Midi Tower (Black) - 360W PSU
Liteon DRW-6S160P-05C 16x16 DVD±RW Dual Layer ReWriter (Black)
Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 10 NCQ 200GB 6V200E0 SATA-II 8MB Cache

I just banged that together using Overclockers.co.uk and the total including VAT would be: £449.04 :D

Well I did a very quick check on overclockers uk

Core 2 Duo 6300
2x Leadtek GeForce 7600 GT 256MB (SLI :) )
Asus P5NSLI nForce 570 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 Motherboard
2GB Corsair XMS2 800Mhz DDR2

Total: £602.72 (that includes VAT)

You can reuse your hdd, optical drives etc.

The core 2 duo will easily handle big overclocks on air :D

This could obviously easily be jiggled about so you get 1GB of ram insted of 2GB and then be able to buy a bigger hard drive or etc.

I must stress that this was a very quick look.

Using a single high end card is often better than using 2 mid/low end cards. Plus, I doubt his current PSU is sufficient.

I can see your point, but those 2 cards could easily be taken out and a single more powerful card put in

--EDIT--

quickly checked overclockers

how about this little ateration then

Core 2 Duo 6300
GeForce 7900 GTX 512MB or Radeon 1900XTX 512MB
Asus P5NSLI nForce 570 (nvidia card) or MSI 965P NEO (ati card)
1GB Corsair XMS2 800Mhz DDR2
