(Help!)What bios would you put on a 3070 msi gaming x trio?

Today comes home an RTX 3070 msi gaming x trio that I've been waiting for a month.
I wanted to change the bios for one that would allow me to do more oc since it is a very well cooled graphics card but I have seen that it has a very bad VRM and if I put for example the bios of the rog strix oc it could be damaged.
What is the best bios that you recommend to put on it?
(I know I'm not going to gain much performance with the oc, I do it because it seems fun to me.)

Are you willing to brick this card and able to buy a new GPU when things go bad?

Nope xD
I just want to have fun doing oc without beeing constantly stopped by power limit.
in theory the trio has 9 phases of 45w, so in total 405 w max, or i'm wrong?

There's no dual bios on this, beware.
If i plug a secun gpu can i return to the original bios from there?

Is the performance difference between the max oc of your card vs the rog strix really that big? Seems like a big risk to take for what would probably be a very small difference. Why not tune the opposite way and find your most efficient settings?

It's purely for entertainment purposes, i like to spend time in seeing bigger numbers xD

Seems like the Strix 3070 OC bios has the highest PL (350W), should be no problem flashing your card to that bios, just make sure to keep the VRM cool by increasing the fans speed.
Secondly undervolting would ensure your VRM won't run too hot.

MSI afterburner can monitor the vrm temperature? What temperatures for that you recommend as max?
Seeing the poor vrm in this video I was worried, but now I am thinking, 9 phases with 45w each one should be 405 theoretical maximum power, enough for the 350w of the strix oc.
Or I am wrong?

The card gets 75W from the PCI-E slot and 2 x 150W from the 2 x 8 pin PCI-E power cables so the most you could theoretically pull would be 375W

Well there is no VRM thermal sensor on any AIB 3070 except for the EVGA ones. There is only GPU temp reporting on the MSI 3080 Gaming X Trio, however you can correlate GPU temp to VRM temp to a certain degree.

HUB used a Type K thermalcouple to measure VRM temperature and it is around 15C hotter than GPU temp.

Increasing the power limit can increase GPU and VRM thermal considerably, so I suggest a more agressive fan curve and set up an undervolt (to around 1.0V or less) after you flash BIOS. The higher PL from the Asus Strix BIOS will keep your core clock more stable during heavy workload. For benchmarks the VRM on the Gaming X Trio can sustain 350W PL but I wouldn't use 350W for long gaming sessions.

I wouldn't mess with those personally, I'd OC it to the max it can reach with its original bios.

Hi,
Shunt mods are cheap to do and no soldering if you do it right :)

If it were me I wouldn't do it.. That said, I do enjoy watching people panic before they start the RMA process

Just enjoy your hardware man.

In this days i would undervolt the card and hope that it lasts me for years. Even if i would be willing to pay the additional inflated prices there are zero RTX cards where i live. So, like said above, leave it at stock or undervolt it and enjoy your gaming. Or don't :rockout:
