Hey everyone, im buying a new GFX card for my PC so I can play newer games like Fallout 3, Left 4 Dead, Crysis... I've got a choice out of these 3 cards

XFX Geforce 8800 GT 512MB = http://www.videocardshop.co.uk/product.asp?session=@@@@@@@@@@@@AQYHFR602665-0UTCQS@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@&prodid=PV-T88P-YHF4

XFX Geforce 8800 GT 512MB Alpha Dog = http://www.videocardshop.co.uk/product.asp?session=@@@@@@@@@@@@AQYHFR602665-0UTCQS@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@&prodid=PV-T88P-YDF4

XFX Geforce 8800 GTS 640MB = http://www.videocardshop.co.uk/prod...65-0UTCQS@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@&prodid=PV-T80G-THF4

What would be the best for gaming and good fps while playing at highest settings and what would be best for my PC specs? This is my PC specs and how big jump would it be? and is it better than my old ATI HD 4670 IceQ Turbo 512MB for gaming?

AMD Athlon 64 X2 6000+ Dual Core Processor 3.0 GHz
XFX Nforce Geforce 8200 Motherboard
2GB RAM DDR2 1066MHz
Radeon X800 Pro (I use to have 4670 HD IceQ Turbo)

Many thanks if you guys can help me choose which graphics card is the best for gaming out of those 3... And I cant go any higher than that budget... Thanks

Is it the best out of all the other 3 for gaming? And I dont get why 8800 GTS is cheaper than all of them and its meant to be newer? And with 8800 GT Alpha Dog, can I play on maximum settings on fallout 3 and left 4 dead? Thanks

+1 to hatt, the 8800 alpha dog edition of XFX was one of the more popular 8800 gt. also welcome to tpu.

EDIT: yes u can play most games at maximum with medium resolution on the alpha dog edition

and as an advice, you should complete the system specs field in the control panel so you dont have to write it always u post

The alpha dog is the best out of those 3, yes. The 8800gts is actually older. First the G80 8800gts came out (which is what you're looking at here), then the G92 8800gts, then the 8800GT, which is what you're looking at, also built on the g92 core. The 8800gt has more shaders than the g80 8800gts you are looking at so it is faster.

you'll be able to max fallout 3, as I have a 9800gt (which is a rebranded 8800gt) and I max fallout 3 easily. not sure about left 4 dead as I have never played that one yet... but it probably will max.

the left 4 dead is made in the source engine, a quite old one, so yes, you can max it thats for sure

that GTS isnt newer than the 8800gt, as its based on te older G80 architecture, having 96 shader processors as apose to the GT's 112. as a result the 8800gt will give higher fps despite the slightly less memory.
there is a new 8800gts 512 with 128 shaders which is fatser then the GT

Thank you all, so is the alpha dog edition im showing you based on a g92 core then? How big of a jump is it from a Radeon x800? And do you think that £77 + £5 delivery is a very good price for the alpha dog? ^_^

8800GTS 640 has more RAM & RAM bandwidth although yea it has fewer shader processors and they're clocked lower too.

Any of these cards will blow your mind when compared to a X800.

El Numero Dos! (actually, #1 and #2 are the same product, just a different link for some reason). ;)

It will be much better than your current and better than the HD 4670.

You WILL NOT be able to max out left 4 dead, trust me on this one. I had my GT playing it at medium specs just to get nice smooth frame rates, and that was with this quad @ 3.2.

Hence why I went for the upgrade and got my 260.

But my old ATI radeon HD 4670 maxed out left 4 dead with smooth FPS, and on Youtube there are videos of HD 4650 maxing left 4 dead out... Unless someone tampered with your GT :p... But anyway, is my GT alpha dog on the G92 cores? ^^

I could play smoothly in some areas - that said Im a high sensitivity / fps gamer, as I play games like CS:S competitively - If my fps goes from 100 - 60, ill notice haha.

My GT could play it smooth like I said, just in some intense areas it fell down. Plus, bear in mind ATI cards are better at playing games rich with AA, so its not a fair comparison between the GT and a 4 series.

And yes, its a G92, and Ive just spotted where you are buying it from too ;)

oh haha :p... Is that good price for that card? and what is the difference between the G92 alpha dog 8800 gt and the 9600 gt series? Is it Nvidia's naming schemes to make cash cause of bigger numbers? :L... I heard that its just a modified version of a normal 8800gt? If anyone could correct me and is it much better than the alpha dog 8800 gt im buying? much love to you all for hleping me ^_^

The alpha dog version will be a pre overclocked GT - mine was an ASUS TOP version, being that it was pre overclocked by ASUS. So its no different from a regular GT, only they have saved you time by overclocking it from stock for you. Which is a bonus really.

Its a good price, but I have a 9600GT Im selling for £50 delivered ;) and that thing can max COD:4 out no problem at all.

XFX Are a well known brand, and alot of people buy them, so they must be good.

The GT is by far the better buy - a friend still runs an EVGA 8800GTS 640MB Superclocked card, and that still plays everything bar a few games at maximum settings, however my GT was deffinately more spritely.

Let us know when you order and get it installed! :toast:

My GT was the first graphics card I owned, and I absolutely loved it. In its final few months I overclocked it to hell and back, it was an absolute screamer - got it game stable @ 800, 1850, 2100. Ate call of duty and crysis @ medium - high for lunch :D

My 4830 butt plugs L4D at 1920x1080 with 16x AA/AF, 130-200FPS at all times. Something was wrong there  But the alpha dog would be better, the other one has a bad cooler.

Didn't the G92 8800GT come before the G92 GTS ? Or is my memory faulty ?

Will I be able to run the 8800 GT Alpha Dog on the XFX Geforce 8200 Mobo and a Corsair 600 Watts PSU?
