Hi !

I am just new with this whole forums thinggy so I hope that you forgive for mistakes that I will make.

I have a Gecube 9550XT and it has worked fine for almost a year, however after i changed to a mobo
that has AGP 8X I started to encounter image distortions during 1-2 hours of gameplay (LOTR ROTK, NBA2k5 and CNC Gens at maximum setting). I changed stock cooling to a coolermaster coolviva but I still encounter the overheating.

tnx

Tnx guys for the replies

What happens is that after couple of hours of gameplay I will start to see small distortions on the screen (ramdom locations). After this touched certain parts of the video card anfd found that the memory is hot.

Would putting heatsink on the memory help?

HI

DanTheBanjoman, I had a few socket 7 heatsinks lying around and I cut them to size to cool down

the memory chips, it just prolonged the time before the card would overheat. Do you think I should

put another set of heatsinks on the other side of the memory chips?

Nergal, where can I find prime95? So I can check the other parts because the CPU and PSU are

around 3-4 years old.

gR3iF your right, i did not thought that the cool viva would only cover card's processor and leave the

memory bare. I was fooled by the blue and copper look :(

Do you have any casefans? If not, get at least one. Makes sure there is a decent airflow for the card.
Instead of prime95 you can use systool cpu benchmark, it's basically the same thing.

I have an exhaust fan but no intake. I only have Duron 1600, do you think I should add?

I ran the systool but dont know what to look for, just saw the memory and CPU test

finish

Please advise

Are you overclocking or have you messed with the voltages? Its worrisome that you are generating more heat than you feel the card is designed for if you are not :( . The 9550 should run fine at its normal speeds without additional cooling. If all else fails try testing the card on your old motherboard, perhaps you can isolate the problem by testing each component i.e. System CPU, PSU, individually

Hi Thermopylae_480

I did not change any HW or SW setting i just changed mobo. Unfortunately, I no longer have another

mobo to test it with.

Im planning of adding heatsinks on the otherside if the memory chips since these are the others that

are heating up.

Please advise. Please advise.

I oso have a Gecube 9550XT and it comes together with a stock cooling for the GPU and the RAM as well..... and it performs quite well. I too experienced some form of image distortion but after I installed the latest ATI driver, the problem vanished!! :D

Hi ndgoh

I think the problem is its too hot here in the philippines. I glued heatsinks on the other side of the

memory and did not experience the problem anymore.

Hey guys, I googled about the freq of 9550Xt and I it runs at 398/250 which is higher compared

to the normal 9600. Is this true?

If it is, and the driver only sees the card as a 9600 what is advantage of having the card run at

398/250?
