I'm just wanting to squeeze the best outta my card... its currently running at 621MHz (GPU) & 661MHz (Mem)... its got an IceQ cooling system and runs at 39*C (idle)... any hints on overclocking? I've got ATI Traytools, but I dont really trust the benchmark on it, and the "Auto overclock" function simply boosts the speeds up and up and up till the card crashes, then resets defaults... can anyone help me?

use ATItool found here . Oc in 5-10MHz jumps, then scan for artifacts with ATItools fuzzy cube! I recommend not useing the AUTO OC features.

Take it slow and test it often...if you know that 621/661 works...start there and see if you can get somemore out of the card.

Also when you feel the OC is getting to its peak....run 3D06 a couple of times and look for artifacts there too. If it passes raise the clocks, and repeat until desired clock is achieved!

scan for artifacts with the 3D render running on ATItools? for how long? (30 secs, 2mins, 5mins, 10 mins?)

You wanna scan it long enough for it to reach its max temps and see if its stable. This should take 5 to 20 mins. Once it becomes unstable bump the clocks down one notch and test it by running furmark or atitraytools overnight.

I have to completely agree here...very sound advice!

whats the Max safe temps? ... I've done a few experiments and my GPU spikes at 51*C atm, with the card environment spiking at 61*C (thats OCed to 640:700, from 621:680) ... I heard the MAX temp you ever want to reach is 65*C ... any higher than that and the card starts to melt... that true?

at 65*C its not going to melt. as long as you are running Catalyst Control Center drivers, there should be a thermal shutdown built in. I wouldnt put my card to much past 65*C tho on a stock cooler.....is the fan speed all the way up, or is this controlled by the card still?

the fan is set to 100% all the time... the cooler is an IceQ system
