helping a friend

ok one of my friends has a 3500+ clawhammer a gig of ram and a mx440. he needs a good card for about $170. i was thinking of these 2 but i dont know which is better:

i know the 512mb is overkill but thats the only 1600 on agp. i am willing to take any other options for consideration but try to keep it from either tigerdirect.com or newegg.com. thank you in advace.

oh well i will see if he can cover the extra cost. i was reading one of the reveiws (HIS x1600xt) where the card was faster then a 16 pipe x800. so depending on the money he has and is willing to spend will decide on the card. i will have him get the x800 if he can afford it.

yes, X800 would be the better choice.The X1600 has a 128bit memory bus and the 512 mbyte ram is a waste of money.

IMO a 6800 is the better deal in that price range.

Newegg was limited on AGP versions so look elsewhere to compare. You don't need a 512 Mb card but with the price being about the same I'd spend the couple extra dollars . 256Mb is good enough but don't get a 128 Mb version when you look around.

WWW.ZIPZOOMFLY.COM is a good place too.

Edit: just saw that card is only 128 bit memory interface. you can get one that has 256MB & 256bit interface for about $200.
