It does discount it (for certain? Of course not.. believable.. .absofrigginlutely), actually... why wouldn't they take an EASIER step to get more people to do it. Instead, you think they would intentionally make people lie/be immoral/unethical to get it? I can't say that is sound logic.

An on screen k/b could easily be added to the install if MS so desired. This would be a big pain in the backdoor if you didnt ACTUALLY need it.

I was surprised MS didn't continue the free upgrade to Win 10. For a while there it seemed they were hell-bent on getting everyone on Win 10 by any means. I guess I was wrong.

There was speculation about this months ago, about the time they started "forced" installations, and Microsoft came out and said they wouldn't, but that could have just been another push to try and get the hold outs to upgrade.

I've also read that you can still activate Windows 10 with a Win7/8/8.1 key, no idea if it's true.

I wasn't going to read through the entire thread but I wanted to ask a quick question. Any performance boosts in games or other applications? Or can I just keep windows 7? Based on my system specs what reason would there be to upgrade?

This is how they got me in a nutshell.

As the free upgrade expired, I downed Windows 10 Anniversary ISO using media creation tool (ie not using the "accessibility" free update route), low and behold it accepted my Windows 7 Pro genuine retail key. I then checked the license type (using this method), low and behold I was still on Retail license(screenie). I still use Windows 7 Pro pretty much daily on my desktop. Then as a family member had said they felt their Laptop was "zipper" under Win 10 vs 7 I then did take advantage of the free "accessibility" upgrade, yes it was immoral and unethical method of gaining Windows 10 for that piece of kit and I hold my hand up to it :oops:

Worked for me on my desktop, screen shot above and my Hexus.net thread with 0 comments :twitch:

. None of my kit had had Win 10 whilst free upgrade option was available, nor the beta/tech.preview (even though had them on ISO due to signing up on insider program).

I would bet you could if you called their customer service and asked nicely. Despite some of the things that MS has done over the years that makes me wary of them, I have never had a single bad experience with their CS. They've actually been pretty generous to me. Might just be luck though.

Early benchmarks after Windows 10's launch showed a very minor improvement, Windows 10 mainly offers better native support for new technologies, though performance differences will be subjective depending on the person, system and use.

Windows 10 certainly feels faster and more responsive on lower end systems than Windows 7.

If you use the older build of the installer all you have to do is type in your key during the install everything still activates without any issues. Upgrades suck anyway, clean installs are way easier.

But not everyone feels that way, it's subjective. I mean when I installed it briefly on my laptop and desktop for the digital license I didn't notice a difference, but it was brief and I didn't run any programs.
