Hesitant to flash BIOS on new Ryzen build

Hi all. I have the MSI B350 PC Mate motherboard. Had a few headaches with the build (bad mobo). Build runs great and performs well beyond my expectations. This is a build for a family member.

Specs: AMD R5 1500X
G. Skill 3000 mhz ram
GTX 1070

This system is running on the launch bios which don't allow me to adjust memory speed at all. There are no glitches or weird issues with the PC itself. However, thanks to the awesome TPU BIOS Digest I noticed that there have been several BIOS updates modifying memory/R5 performance capabilities.

I have never flashed BIOS in my life. I watched the MSI m.Flash introductory video and I understand how to flash the bios but am hesitant too. Is it as straightforward as downloading the proper files, unzipping them, placing it on a thumbstick, and flashing bios in m.Flash?

If the system is running well why do it , if you really want to update then ask someone who as done it before and watch.

Why do you want to adjust the speed and what is the current one.

Check this before hand.

I also read the board manual on bios flashing. For my board i just get the cap file put it on a USB drive, ensure i also have the prior bios file on the drive too, then I just go into the bios and do ezflash, if the file comes to you compressed as a zip/rar/7zip, uncompress it first.

Im presuming MSI has a built in bios tool as well.

Pretty much. Honestly, the process is pretty straight forward. Where you get in trouble is usually if power gets interupted, by the grid or from a cord being pulled, etc. If you have unreliable grid power, you may want to get a UPS before flashing. Otherwise, it's not really that big of a deal, but it's also not really important if all is going well either. The gains may well be there, but whether they are worth it? That's up to you to decide.

This is different mind you in GPU-bios land. In that area, you generally "flash" with the expectation that your hardware may not come back. Whole different ballgame.

Most ryzen updates are for ram compatibility, I doubt anything for oc or added features.

Don't do it if it gives you jitters.

Imagine..., you click enter and then power goes out suddenly... U stare at the blank monitor vacantly for few seconds before covering your face slowly and then start to mumble words.

And then -

"Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh!!!"

Ish it's very easy ive done two Ryzens so far,
Goto the motherboard makers website ,the support section pick os and get to bios download.
Get the latest plus a utility called bios renamer this is needed for uefi compatibility download both.
Extract brenamer bios renamer then extract or put the bios in the same folder as brenamer.
Click on brenamer and run it, it renames the rom for you ,copy this to a clean usb drive with original format.
Reboot onto bios
Click on advanced settings then tools.
You should see bios flashing software in there click it it will ask where your bios is.
Point it at your bios on its usb stick it will give a yes or no before flashing as you would expect then dont touch a thing and don't turn it off it will restart itself when it's done.
You may have to reconfigure your bios again for boot options etc.

BIOS Renamer part is exclusive to ASUS, and is only needed for their processorless/ramless flash feature that some boards have.
