Hey Guys New to PC gaming and trying to switch

Hey everyone, I am pretty new to all this so I was hoping you guys could help me out in picking a pc.

I have a friend trying to sell his pc to me. These are the specs:

I5 3570
Gtx 770 EVGA SC 2gb
16gb ram
500gb western digital black
Windows 10
500w EVGA PSU
Gigabyte z motherboard

Again I have no idea what is good or bad. I just want to play games like H1Z1, skyrim, csgo and overwatch at about 60 fps if possible.

He is selling me this for $500. Is it worth? Could I upgrade it afterwards?

I'm not really up to speed on US pricing but what you are being offered is a very capable PC.

In the short term i would add a SSD. In the longer term i would consider changing the GPU for one with more Vram though the 770 is still a very good GPU.

If i search the parts separatly that you have listed on the internet (refurbished/second hand) I'm at $524.9 USD. That's without a case. As this is still a good Pc for 1080p gaming, I say it should be a good deal.

The i5 and the 770 should be able to play those games comfortably

i'm also agreeing, those specs are not bad.

adding in an SSD for windows (and your primary games) would be a great help, but its not neccesary (slower load times without it, not slower performance in game)

500w will be more than fine for future GPU upgrades, GPUs don't really become more power hungry and 770 already eats 200w. A 1070 would actually lower the strain on the PSU and I wouldn't go higher on the i5 3570k anyway - this CPU can already potentially present the limiting factor with that card.

That depends on the "type" of the PC. High-end PC will need over 500W. Currently, the best "safe" bet is 600-650W 80+ Bronze PSU from the reputable manufacturer, since they have enough power for overclocking and single power-hungry GPU's and are not too expensive.

OP there is absolutely no need for a bigger PSU if you stick with a single GPU setup.

Good spec and the price is reasonable.

I would invest in a new graphics card though. This one is quite old, so the GPU is not that powerful and 2GB VRAM will get maxed out pretty easily in modern games, tanking your framerate.

You'll also wanna put an SSD in there as your system will be much more snappy with it.

I also recommend putting in the exact model numbers of the components so that members can give you more detailed advice.

I don't agree. I'm in the US, and $500 for that computer being fully operational and running is a pretty decent deal. You'd be hard pressed to buy everything (used) and put it together for less than $500.

I could be off some, but I don't think I am, but this is about what I think the computer would cost buying used parts-

I5 3570- $130-150
Gtx 770 EVGA SC 2gb- $100-120
16gb ram- $40-50
500gb western digital black- $30-40
Windows 10- $85-100
500w EVGA PSU- $30-40
Gigabyte z motherboard- $50-75, (maybe more depending in exact model)

and that doesn't include what case the computer is in, disk drives, or any peripherals such as mouse and KB that may also be included in the deal, but not listed.

Those can be added later on..and other internals like cd-rom,dvd writer or a cheap sound card not important

So do you consider someone who is debating a second-hand PC for gaming, a high-end PC gamer then? Of course there are configurations that go over 500w, but the actual fact is, even with the most power hungry single GPU and a mild OC on the i5 you would STILL be fine with 500w. It gives you 250w for the 770/980ti/1070 upgrade which is all she can do, and 200+ for an i5 with a TDP of less than half that number.

This thread isn't for blanket statements, its for advise on this specific build and purchase. The days you needed 650w for a gaming PC are gone. Times change. CPU doing more than 95W is highly uncommon these days, and if you still run a 300w TDP GPU you're in dire need of upgrading anyway. The only conceivable reason to go beyond 500w is when you want to run dual or triple GPU, or Intel 6/8 core CPUs with a serious OC - both of them system configurations that are highly cost-ineffective for gaming in every possible combination.

Maybe used hardware doesn't hold the same value in Romania as it does here in the States. Maybe I'm off on some of the value I give these parts. Maybe I'm just out of the loop on the prices of used hardware. Or maybe I'm dead on on what it would cost to build a PC with the specs of this PC.

As for the things that can be added later? Sure, you could do that, which would increase the price of the PC over time. But that is irrelevant. The OP is asking about the value of the PC his friend is trying to sell, so everything that is included has to be accounted for in the PC's value.

Oh, don't get me wrong, any amount of money the OP can get the price knocked down is definitely good for the OP and increases the value of the PC. But personally, I wouldn't have a problem paying $500 for a PC of those specs, if I had a need for it.

He could OP ask him what parts are still in warranty and that adds more value.
