Honestly speaking, OK is relative... wife and oldest son still dealing with concussion issues, documented by both docs and physiotherapist, while having no vehicle really sucks. Just can't find even anything REMOTELY like what we had. As each day goes by, I seem to be getting more and more frustrated with it all, especially now that the school year is well underway, and my homework and assignments start to increase (three papers to write this weekend, + about 10 hours of studying needed. I'm almost at the point of straight up quitting doing reviews because I can't manage my time effectively enough without having a vehicle, and the added time that is involved having to take the bus everywhere. Anyone interested in doing motherboard and memory reviews? :banghead:
Hang in there man! I enjoy your reviews, but I understand about not having enough time. You have to take care of you and your family first, this family will be here when you are ready. :toast:

Frustrated is completely understandable! Do the best you can do; nothing else can be asked. Family comes first at all times!

Anyone interested in doing motherboard and memory reviews? :banghead:

Sure, if I had the smallest fraction of your time knowledge, know-how, hardware, balls, and awesomeness, I'd be all over that.

ha...no thanks. it'd have to pass inspection, and I won't put my kids in such an old-and-what-is-likely-unreliable vehicle. Heck, the 2007 Grand Caravan (90,000kms, new tires with les than 100- kms on them (Pirellis, of course), all repairs and maintenance up to date, no prior accidents, no problems, no dents, etc, etc, etc) we did have, that's pictured in this thread... wasn't "base" model, either. A similarily equipped vehicle (basics, you know, like passenger airbags and such, bucket seats for the kids that need booster seats (so that they are properly mounted to the chair, which isn't possible in a bench seat), decent tires, brakes, etc, etc, etc, can't be had for less than about 25k, and since banks won't give us a loan without it being 100% new, since I have student loan, plus debt we've accumulated since the accident, etc, etc... and since I'm in school, I haz no real job...

Then there's needing a down payment for a vehicle... I couldn't even buy THAT piece of crap you linked. That requires some money... and I still owe $2500 for next semester, and need more books for next semester...

Gotta pay $200 a month to get the kids to school (by bus), gotta pay for them to stay for lunch, can't put them in extra-curricular things since have no way to get them to stuff except by bus, and school hours for me and work hours for wife considering we both travel by bus....

UGH.

I kinda know how your situation is but in a different tone. I'd have to take about 90 minutes to get to school and 90 to get back. Lack of gas money pretty much limited car use, which was only used for doctor visits, therapy visits, and HUGE store shopping trips.

If I had the capacity of tech know-how then I'd totally help with reviews, but I'm a simple young adult with a very limited skillset.

Heh. Actually, doing reviews, for me, is the one thing that might save me financially, while dealing with all this accident stuff. While I bemoan the time I don't have right now, I'll make it work, no matter what. I'm pissed that it affect my kids the most, since me going to school is nothing new really, but part of having a vehicle in the first place was that it made all of the stuff for the kids possible, and not being at fault at all for this accident really rubs me the wrong way. ZERO fault, yet it feels like we're being punished and get the worst of it, since I know the other driver got a new vehicle.

And I once again have got to say thanks to so many of you guys for the positive comments and emotional support. Means the world to me, really.

Not sure about Canadian law, but the "at fault" party should allow you rental

Yes, but I guess I made the mistake of accepting payout for our vehicle from our insurance. Did get a rental a few days after the accident, had to return it last Friday. Which is why I'm a bit worked up about not having a vehicle now. I could get a rental car, but would have to pay for it. I have the bill from the rental we did have.. it's like $1750 a month (minivan, since we have four kids). I can't afford that, nor can I deal with possibly having to pay for that myself since it is likely to be quite a few months until this is all settled.

At first, honestly, I just wanted our van back, didn't care about much else. However, the drastic change that this has caused our lives, even just with normal daily tasks, is becoming as huge issue. We normally take our kids to the library every weekend...15 minute drive... now takes over an hour. I should be getting a ride home after school, could pick up the minor groceries we might have needed... not now, really. Used to take our kids out to the park, or for ice cream, or whatever...not possible now. REALLY FRUSTRATING.

Can't carry boxes to the post office... shoulder and neck are still not 100%. IF only it was that easy, I got a huge whack of boards and stuff here for sure, and I definitely don't need to keep it all. :p Would be hard just getting a box out to my vehicle that I don't have, at this point, since I braced against the dash just before the impact, so having my arms in front of me is where I am weakest.

Wanna buy a board? :p I should talk to W1zz about making a FS thread. Or maybe paying me a decent amount might be nice. ROFL.

Seriously re-thinking doing reviews, had kind of planned to stop doing reviews while at school anyway, but it's not like there's a big line-up of people wanting to do it, so I've kept at it. Idecided instead to stop playing videogames.... I mean after all.. playing games...maybe making some money... money wins. :p

Honestly, I'm a rather prideful person, would feel obligated to somehow repay. I kind feel that when life throws me curveballs like this, there's a reason for it. So I just whine a bit, or a lot, but bear it. :p

selling from Canada isn't as easy as it is in the US... That's why I have the board hoard. I've given away a bunch of systems recently...because I couldn't sell 'em.

Like when it comes to reviews.. yeah, I do a good job, and my pridefulness pushes me to be that guy that knows this stuff well, but really, I'm probably in the worst situation possible to be selling hardware, and you are more than familiar with the low-balls that happen.

Holy crap Dave!! I don't know how I missed this thread but damn man, I am soooo glad everyone is okay and getting better man. Looked to be a nasty one for sure.

Of course I realize that CA is tough to sell hardware in, but I would think there is some what of a market.

As some have said, UPS will do pick ups but I don't think they can do that to ship out of the country. I know the US postal service will not. A person actually has to go to the post office and fill the paper work out. I don't know on UPS as I have never shipped out of the country using their service.

You should contact a lawyer, the other party is liabial to make you whole" not just your ins.
I hadto do that 3 times the last with y own Ins. Co. They are NOT your friend ! Also that's tactic they use to limit" thier out of pocket expense, thinking, "hey well offer this $$ just to cut cost knowing you'll be needing a lot of $$$ to even try to make whole.

The insurance did pay us out for our vehicle, but the payment they made was written in the name of the bank as well as our, meaning no way to cash it without paying off the loan. Left us with $50 extra.

Laws pertaining to accident payments are NOT the same from province to province, so what works in Ontario does not apply here. The at-fault insurance company will not pay for rental now that we have been paid out for our vehicle, and yes, we could get a rental, but they would not pay us for our rental expense until after settlement. In the end, that might also mean that they have to pay more, since we have had to drastically adjust our lives because of that. We do have a lawyer, but of course, getting proper paper work sent out to insurance companies and such takes time.

The one positive side of this is that my kid's school should now be taken care of. Any settlement we get for them, is not paid out until they are 18. So, for them, I like that, as they will have a little bit of cash waiting for them. But in the meantime, I still have to deal with things as they are.

And yeah, 0% fault on our side, and other driver admitted fault immediately both to the police, and to their insurance, should that end of things should be OK. It's just a matter of time lost, at this point, I'm not really worried about the money end of things in the long run, thankfully.
