HIPER Launches Type-M 780watt PSU

High Performance Group (HIPER) has just added the new "HPU-4M780" Power Supply to their existing Type M Series which is rated for 780watts of power and continues to sport their patented mesh-design and unique gold plated connectors. The supersilent power supply has an average efficiency of 85% and is NVIDIA SLI ready with 2x 8pin and 4x 6pin connectors. This unit complies with the latest ATX12V v2.2/EPS12V v2.91 form factors and has four independent 12V rails (18A each) as well as Active PFC (Power Factor Correction). Good price for a 780watt psu,but are hiper psu's any good.I'm sure i've heard some bad stuff about them.

I had their 580w Type-R for a while. It failed twice on me, and the RMA processes is rather complicated and took forever, it took them over a month to get me a new power supply the first time it failed, and when I called to complain they just told me "it takes as long as it takes" and then didn't even bother to ship it with expodited shipping, just standard ground shipping.

Plus, it seems their modular designs aren't available in the US, which suck because that was really the only good selling feature about them.

well Ive never had one Hiper's PSUs but i was close to getting the 580w special edition mod 1 at one point. glad i didnt.

at the same time there are people that gave Hiper PSUs a good review then there are those which have had a fair amount of problems with theirs & thats a shame meaning Hiper's build quality isnt constant & there are better manufacturers available who actually know what their doing when it comes to making a PSU

sorry to hear about your experience newtekie - personally i would have taken them to court if they told me "it takes as long as it takes". these hired monkeys cant speak to their customers/consumers like that it does not give out a solid professional image for themselves & also the company Hiper who hired the monkeys in the Customer Care department for half a buhnana a day.

I would have straight out asked for a refund & go get a proper PSU rather then sitting around waiting for some ass hats to decide that they actually want to do something or do something right/properly/correct.

it probably would be wise to ask to speak to an assistant of a higher authoritative ranking & try to get that mofo sacked or bitch slapped before going ape shit & demanding a refund...a problem is a problem but nobodies going to help you if your screaming down their ear about how much you made love to their mother last night

I got 2 hipers mods and up to now both have been great (touches wood)..
One i had over two years and powers the second rig in my profile and 1 just over a year old powers my main rig in my profile..

Oh, I did speak to a superviser after being told that, and he was very nice, but the fact still stands that the original person I talked to was a jackass.

And trust me, the second time the PSU failed I just bought another power supply and when the Hiper came back it went into a backup machine.

It turned out that the power supply failing might have been partially because of my abuse. I say that because the system I had it running in was the system in my specs, but with 2 7900GTs and an E6600. 580w should have been enough to power that, but it kept failing. Hiper's SLI certification is kind of misleading. I figured it would be fine to power 2 7900GTs since it was SLI certified. Turns out it is only certified to run 2 6600GTs in SLI. I found that out after the second failure when I was working my way up their tech ladder. One of the techs I talked to let it slip that they only apply for certification for the lowest end SLI cards possible and nVidia is perfectly fine with that appearanty.

So it was partially my fault because my graphics cards were overloading it. But it was also Hiper's fault for misleading their customers and the power supply still should have been able to handle the load, even if it isn't certified by nVidia to do so.

sheesh that sucks lol they really should have made it clear what you can & cant run on it. I guessing all the AMPage & all the other stuff was within the standard range.

Ive been running the 580w type r for about a year + now ive had no troubles with it plus it looks gr8, i do remember reading about a bad batch of 580w type r's that failed reapetedly but i cant remember where, but over all good quality and quite cheap 2.
And that sucks newtekie1 i would have driven to the call center lol.

Alot of folks on here were swearing by the Hiper 580R. I never trusted it nor trusted the name as I never heard of them. I second that the price on this 780 Beast is very nice.

TBH - I haven't had a single issue with mine at all. It's been extremelly reliable handling me taking a P4 up to 4.6 GHz with Crossfired OCed GPUs - never once has it burped.

I get the feeling, though, that Hiper's units are more of a 50-50 crap shot. Some people get solid units, others get headaches.

From what all I've read from other people, though, it's their bottom-line series that tends to have more issues. Their higher-end lineups seem to be more stable.

Asides - great price, and the case their PSUs come in is friggin brilliant! I have to give them a ton of credit just for the packaging design alone!
