Hi all,
a big electronics chain is having a Hitachi XL2000 2TB external harddrive on sale for 100€. This price looks pretty impressive for that capacity, but i am afraid there is catch somewhere. For comparison, the cheapest 2TB drive i could find is a WD Green for 140 €. (a green drive would be also OK for me, as i need it for data, not system)
I have googled on the drive, it seems that there is a 5 platter HDS722020ALA330 7200K Hitachi drive inside with 32MB cache. On Amazon, many users reported high failure rate of these drives, but it seems that the problem is rather related to the enclosure itself. I intend to remove the drive from the enclosure and use it as an internal drive, so i am less concerned by the quality of the enclosure, i just want the drive.
I already wanted to by a new HDD several months ago, but the recent price hike made me to postpone my purchase. Do you think the XL2000 is a good bang for the buck, or should i wait until hdd prices get more realistic?
