I don't know if anyone here has already pre-ordered the new Hitman game, but if you did, than by now you know that most pre-orders have been cancelled by IO interactive and are being refunded.
The reason for this is IO interactive has taken a new direction to release their new game. Well the new direction seems to be that the new Hitman game will be episodic.

The developer said this way they:
“We’ll be able to craft a long story arc that spans multiple games while at the same time crafting smaller arcs and stories that will find their conclusions within each game,” explains IO. “We will get the chance to craft missions and revisit locations in ways that we’ve never been able to do before.”

The game will still launch on March 11th and that initial launch will include the Prologue and the Paris location.
The next location is set in Italy, and will be released in April and then Morocco will release in May. From there they will keep monthly content updates coming, including the three additional locations they have already announced; Thailand, the US and Japan.

The base game which includes Prologue and Paris will be priced at $15. Every next location can be purchased for $10 as an add-on item after you buy the base game. If you want to buy the full game, which is the complete first season, it will cost $60 as always promised.

While this new way of releasing the game seems kind of silly it gives us the chance to buy the base game and see if we like it, and if we would like to invest more money into the game.

well actually it makes sense in the long run, if you really like the game you pay $60 but if you are new to it then 15 +10 for each new location. Quite smart on their end to optimize the end $. Give a taste of the game cheap with cheap additional add ons. Better yet make the first portion free to play then pay $$$ for each map or location. This way the creators of the game can judge the success of their product. If a lot of people buy the base game then the add ons great, but if they buy the base game and drop it. Then they know they have to work on it more to make it a success. I sorta wish more devolpers took this attitude towards games. I have no problem paying $10 or $15 for game that I may or may not like. I hate paying $60+ for games that after playing them I hate it. And I do have a few games that I wish I could have gotten a refund for, that I no longer play.

Hate it. Stories will likely be truncated and not develop into something meaningful. We are also not sure how well the end content will be, which makes $60 up front harder to justify. And buying piece by piece will be more expensive. Not to mention I forget small plot details and how to play well when I don't play the game in months or a year. It happens with lots of DLC which is why I am growing tired of it. By the time I got the hang of the controls again in the Dishonored DLC it ended. I suppose they won't be selling complete versions of the game for $5 or so some years down the road either. If I'm going to have to wait months to play a game to completion, I'm not paying full price up front. So I'll wait; and I'll pay a low price for it.

Although I never had plans to buy this particular title at full price, I was referring to the concept in general.

I think episodic works for Hitman because the games are rather episodic in the first place. I don't like it because this is effectively the TellTale model of DLC which means I won't be buying the game until they're done releasing content for it (will occur later rather than sooner).

I don't mind waiting for a PC version to be finished, even if it takes several months more than the console versions, but I feel this is just another lousy way of getting people to preorder.

I like the idea as long as the option to sell the whole game is available, reason is this gives you a chance to check a game out before putting $60 into it.

But thinking it be more expensive in the end although that will not effect me as i will not buy it until the whole game is released and lower than $60 anyways.

Yeah but they started out making it sound like the chunks after the initial release would be throughout a year span, but then they listed the entire schedule of releases to be only a span of 4 months. Plus the first release isn't going to have very many missions.

That makes it even more suspicious as to why they didn't just postpone release four months and release the entire game all at once. It appears to be both a preorder scam, and an attempt to make the game sound like it has lots of content.

Didn't they also state that between releases there will be enough player generated missions and internal submissions besides the main to get you through until the next release.

Hitman will begin for the Prologue and Paris, before monthly updates bringing Italy, Morocco, Thailand, the US, and Japan. In addition to this there’s going to be weekly events, missions and weapons to give players more to do while waiting.

The launch schedule states only 6 missions for the first release in 3 locations, and it vaguely states the additional release segments will have 1 new location each. That could end up being only 12 missions total for the entire game.
