I'm hoping this is a trend because then I will not have to purchase a PS5. My wife loves almost all of Sony's first party exclusives.

They'll charge $60 for it and they'll use the money to partially fund the development of a sequel, exclusive for PS5, tehe!

I think what's really happening is Sony is realizing AAA development cost for next gen consoles is going to be too expensive to be supported by a singular platform. The majority of profits come from game sales so it only makes sense to release some first party games on PC. Maybe we will see a 6-12 month delays for the PC version. Maybe all that's wishful thinking but a man can hope lol.

The Kotaku article says it well. Platforms are no longer relevant and the console as a walled garden is finite. Its about ecosystems now. Its a softer kind of walled garden. More like fences, you can easily step over them, but then you're in a different garden.

Kinda like what we see on PC too with the different games tied to stores.

MS got the wake up call about the massive size of the PC gaming market and the hundreds of millions of dollars to be made on previously console exclusives a while back and now Sony is waking up as well. We only need Nintendo to start porting their console exclusives to PC and then the PC will be the universal gaming platform.

Sony saw the money Rockstar has made from GTA 5 and now RDR2 and wants some of that Action.

I hope they do this with all their exclusives (sadly I don't have high hopes for that). I don't mind waiting 6-36 months if it means I can play it all on the PC and don't have to spend extra on a PS5.

I would like the Uncharted Series ported over to PC. Those games are supposed to be very good to excellent but I'm not going to buy consoles to play exclusives.

Sony could potentially make a huge amount of money from PC gamers porting the Uncharted games to PC if they did a proper porting job.

I imagine some of the Playstation Fanboys will have to be put on "suicide watch" until it sinks in that games are a business to Publishers and businesses are about making profits.

Loyalty to any piece of plastic or silicone or company that makes them is stupid.... Nothing worse than fanboys of anything.

They are indeed excellent, if you're into the genre. Also, it shouldn't be too hard for PS4 games and the first 3 games have already been re-released as a pack on PS4, so they're all there already. Personally I'd love for the next God of War, Spider-Man and Horizon to make it to PC. Definitely wouldn't buy a PS5 then.

MS got the wake up call about the massive size of the PC gaming market and the hundreds of millions of dollars to be made on previously console exclusives a while back and now Sony is waking up as well. We only need Nintendo to start porting their console exclusives to PC and then the PC will be the universal gaming platform.

The days of "console is king" are long over with and gone.
They will have to keep some form of differentiation, after all, why keep specific hardware in retail when a device exists that does everything better and all in one. Its not going to fly. Consoles are already extremely close to a PC in every way (for the same reasons, ironically), even the 'ease of use' part despite what some might think. The games are the same, the downloads and patch wait times are the same, or perhaps even worse on the console because its more rigid in every way. The only real difference is the amount of tweaks and settings you can change on PC, whereas console doesn't offer that. But even that is entirely optional; games can automatically be set to suitable GFX for each system. Basically if you start a PC today and click the download button, everything after that is done for you, you only click OK and Accept a few times along the way.

Beyond the technical part ALL of the differences, are in fact drawbacks for the console. The only reason the console could sell them as unique is because it also offers something that is unique that people DO want: the games, and most notably the exclusives, timed or not. Even something as silly as cheating, often used as an argument vs PC online gaming, is a very game specific idea and entirely a developer problem before a system's problem. As proven by the likes of Blizzard who can keep their PC ecosystem cheat and hack free, or 99% of it.

Console was never king, really. Its always been on the sidelines of PC progress and tries to step into the marketplace when there is profit to be had and the old version no longer gets exposure. The only consoles that were truly king, were the early Nintendo's, the Atari, the Commodore, who did offer things the PC was still not very capable of at the time... but beyond that...? The PC quickly picked up the pace and had its own share of games and its own market. Older consoles often did push some sort of special hardware to really one-up the PC in some way. PS2 had it, PS3 even had it by being backwards compatible with PS2. Nintendo consoles still have it; its the reason they've got their own little market segment and are not part of 'console wars'. But were they all round better, it really depends on what you're looking for I think. And that hasn't changed. Even today, the PC is still the optimal device for specific genres, for LAN, for massively online stuff, for anything that is NOT gaming but communal, etc etc.

Evidence of this can be found in global sales for each platform over time. The consoles barely, if ever, had a bigger reveneue stream than PC gaming as a whole. And even that is discounting the fact that PC has been the haven of free gaming since forever. Legal or not, free content is everywhere, if you really wanted to you could have gone without spending a single dime on content over the past two decades and NEVER get bored. That's a huge one that is often missed.

No way could I wait for some of these exclusives to come to PC. No way in hell. Some of these exclusives are so important to me to play ASAP that I will gladly keep buying Playstations. Now if the games were released on both console and PC at the same time? I'd never buy a play station again. That won't happen though.

I hope Horizon comes to PC in a enhanced form. A beautiful game on the PS4 with a great story. I doubt we'll see The Last of Us and God of War come to PC. I've been playing on consoles for forty years...well, long enough to know it's the games not what you play them on.

HZD is an awesome game, and it already looked pretty incredible on PS4 pro. Can’t wait to see it on PC hardware.

I searched for a some streams of this, looks damn good visually but the lip sync seemed horrible, but, that could have been the stream too that sound was not synced to the stream, not sure.

Personally, a lot of the direct dialog I didn’t think was the strongest, but the overarching story is quite good. I think they put more personality into that part of the game than many of the live characters. Still, it has great gameplay mechanics and looks amazing.

Horizon zero dawn is a phenomenal game. I just got a PS4 last year and got to try it out amongst other exclusives, gotta say i never had this much fun playing game in a long time and it looks gorgeous. These Sony first party games man i tell you, the wizardry that they use to craft such incredible games is out of this world, some of these games look so much better than anything i'v personally played maxed out on PC

I hope Horizon comes to PC in a enhanced form. A beautiful game on the PS4 with a great story. I doubt we'll see The Last of Us and God of War come to PC. I've been playing on consoles for forty years...well, long enough to know it's the games not what you play them on.
In the kotaku article Jason said he thinks there'll be more exclusives coming to PC, and off the top of my head the only current exclusive that makes scene is Marvel's Spiderman because the spiderman games had been on every game platform prior to the Sony exclusive deal and the game sold incredible well on PS4 ranking it best selling superhero game so i can see them exploring that idea due to the great additional revenue the game would generate on PC as well

Personally I'd love for the next God of War, Spider-Man and Horizon to make it to PC. Definitely wouldn't buy a PS5 then.
I think Sony is aware of the growth of the PC gaming audience and i do think they will explore branching out to PC more in the future but i dont expect that to happen soon as much as we'd hope to think in light of these news. This is a smart move from Sony. Horizon sold over 10 million copies on PS4, very few people want to buy it right now. They will gain more from branching it to PC than keeping it to themselves. This will lure more players who have not played and who will love it to get the PS5 for the sequel. An extra 2-3 million sales is surely a win for Sony, but do not expect sony should they decide to explore this idea further to release their upcoming top their exclusives day and date on PC, rather it'll be years of wait after the sales had fallen from its peak.

God of War, hmmm i dont know i really cant imagine a world where that IP and Uncharted could go to PC, but if they did i would flip the f@#k out of excitement even tho i already own it on our PS4, just seeing that game popped out in the steam store would break my own reality of things haha

Who thought that MS would port Halo MCC to PC and even to also put it on Steam before they announced it. It's happening slowly but it is happening. Halo games are the Holy Grail for Xbox gamers. Sales are good so far on PC for the first game release of the Halo MCC.

Halo: Reach is doing well on Steam

Now it's up to Sony. Do they want to scoop up the easy money from PC gamers for their exclusives or do they want to walk away and leave the money on the table?

I think you are selling the PS4 a little too short. Although PCs have become easier to set up and use, they're still not at console level. If you want a low cost, hassle free couch gaming experience (and 30fps doesn't bother you too much) consoles are still the way to go, you just pick up the gamepad, press a button on it and you're done. Regarding game and system updates, they're automatic and done in the background even when you're gaming (so I'd say it's even easier than on PC, since you have to open the specific launcher there).

Consoles also have a killer feature that the PC doesn't have, and that once you try it, you'll never look at your PC the same way. Sleep. During freaking games. If you need to step away from your game for a longer period of time and don't want to quit it (some games don't let you save whenever you want) you can just put your PS4 to sleep and the next time you power it on it takes literally 2 seconds and you're back to where you were.
Microsoft anounced their upcoming console will be able to do this with more than one game at the same time. I don't know why you would.. but it's cool. Windows needs this feature ASAP. In the xbox game bar or something.

If the next gen delivers 1080p@60 across all games, which I think it will, that'll be a super solid lower cost couch gaming experience.

God of War, hmmm i dont know i really cant imagine a world where that IP and Uncharted could go to PC, but if they did i would flip the f@#k out of excitement even tho i already own it on our PS4, just seeing that game popped out in the steam store would break my own reality of things haha
Well, I think Uncharted is pretty much done, at least as far as Nathan Drake is concerned. So I could see those older games coming to PC. The new God of War is a different story.. I think they could do the old trilogy. And bring the new ones after 3 years of exclusivity maybe. I would wait to play on PC, I think.

By saying the days of "console is king" I am referring to the years when the future of PC gaming didn't look very healthy. I recall some Developers as coming right out and saying that the future of gaming was with consoles. You couldn't log on to a PC gaming site or tech site without people posting that PC gaming was dying/ dead. One guy I got to know that worked for Intel in management posted on the PCGamer forum in 2012 that there wouldn't even be any CPUs made that would be good for gaming in 5 years. Now we see just how wrong he was and Intel is even getting into the discrete GPU gaming market.

Also, there was the same period when console games did bring in far more revenue that PC game revenue:

Global revenues of the video game industry from 1971 to 2018, not adjusted for inflation.

As is obvious Arcade was king at one point and now mobile games are king but PC is doing very well compared to consoles and that is why we are getting an increasing amount of previously console exclusives ported to PC.
