I might pick up a 7900 XTX this weekend. I need something with more 4K power and my RTX 3090 just isn't giving the performance I want with today's titles.
I've owned AMD cards in the past but I remember having issues all the time with the drivers. I have been with Nvidia for a very long time now, their drivers always work, and I never have any issues at all. That said, a 4090 is damn near 2k and I just can't bring myself to spend that kind of cash on a GPU. Now 1K kills a bit of my soul too but it's a bit easier to swallow.

So are the drivers pretty good these days? Thats the only thing holding me up from purchasing the card.

Driver stability wise Nvidia and AMD are about equal. You buy Nvidia for the DLSS, CUDA, AI, VR performance, and superior streaming. If you don't need any of that you'd be fine going with AMD.

Benchmark Scores do not matter, my PC is fast :)
for me AMD drivers are stability wise +- the same as NVIDIA ones, but AMD drivers do include more features which can be a bit tricky when you are new to it.

As a side note: The 7900xtx performs very well in 4K but if you want to use Raytracing in many games, you should pay the Nvidia Tax or you might be dissapointed.

Have been using 6600XT since September of 2021 and now 7800XT since mid December. Issues I've experienced so far:
With 6600XT:
-CSGO would randomly hang when changing maps. Workaround via commandline for CSGO
-Escape from Tarkov would sometimes flicker when opening the inventory screen. Fixed via driver update

With 7800XT:
-Fortnite textures would sometimes flicker. Not sure if it's an AMD problem, fixed via Fortnite and AMD driver update
-Weird issue with Color range when recording via ReLive. Maybe a misconfiguration? not sure if AMD issue.

Some users are having issues with Battlefield 2042 and latest driver 24.1.1. Disabling SAM and re-enabling it seems to fix the issue.

Overall, I'd say a very positive experience.

As a 7900XTX owner, I'd say most of the time Adrenalin just hums quietly in the background without you ever noticing it.

There is the odd game which will crash the driver almost non-stop and send you in a troubleshooting crusade. For me it was Phasmophobia, and I seem to have solved it by disabling everything on the profile for the game in the Adrenalin settings.

Drivers are pretty okay these days, and I use a 5700XT, the most schizophrenic of all currently supported radeon gpus today. If mine lasted for an uptime duration of 17 straight days without any fault or crash(only had to reboot due to a strange motherboard issue), RDNA2/3 is even more stable and will serve you well.

on par or better with NVidia for around a year now.
the latest frame generation driver has a ton of small bugs that you can trigger (overlays, hotkeys, stuff not turning on or off...) but that's still better than constant DPC latency issues (which are against NVidias words still not fixed!), Monitors not waking up from sleep, multi monitor setups not booting with all screens on or issues with a lot of freesync panels at lower refreshrates.

The drivers are really good and rich of different features (as people already stated).

They did remove AMD Link which was for streaming because "We don't want to compete with other streaming alternatives but we will support them" (I'm fine, I didn't use it, just twitch a few times if I wanted to show a game to a friend in good conditions without the Discord's limitations. You can link any streaming key to the drivers so you don't have to bother with OBS or something else).

Some tabs so you have an idea with the actual drivers, in frog language :

EDIT : Oh ! And there is an overlay that you can disable if you don't want it.
I really miss the CUDA cores here but I don't miss the old nVidia control panel (I got it on my laptop, nearly the same as in 2010 or so, right ?) which is pretty useless and aged.

All you'll get is anecdotes but I have:

2x 5600 XT
6600 XT
6700 XT
6800 XT
7700 XT

No I don't use them concurrently but I update drivers when I get to the machine and they just work. The issue you may see complaints about is Adrenalin reverting your settings to stock after a restart but that's fixed by turning off Fast Start in Windows' Power Settings.

I did experience crashing in SW:KOTOR (an old OpenGL game) in 22.7.1 (they did some optimizations in that driver which broke things) up to at least 22.11.1. I got around it by using old drivers which worked fine for that game. I haven't checked to see if the issue was fixed since then with later drivers beyond that. Apart from that niche issue, I haven't actually had any issues.

Cards are the RX 570 and RX 6650XT

Id rather buy a 4090 but its just a ton of cash.

The drivers ARE a lot better than in years past. I'd still say nvidia drivers are more stable, but the difference is mainly academic today. I'd be more concerned with whether you need any of the nvidia value-added features.

I'm a 7900 XTX user but owned an RTX 3090 ti not too long ago.

Nvidia only fixed DPC latency for the 3000 series unfortunately.

A 7900 XTX would probably be faster than a 3090 in VR still, although not likely by much. When the 7000 series launched VR performance and frame consistency were not as good as they should have been. The 7900 XTX for example only matched a 6950X at launch. AMD has resolved most of those issues, at least of what it can do from it's end. A portion of the problem is software support from the likes of headset manufacturers like Oculus and Pimax is poor or non-existant for AMD hardware. For example, AMD has significantly higher wireless latency with the quest 3 when using Oculus link as compared to Nvidia. You can get around that by using VirtualDesktop with the AV1 codec but it's really somethign Oculus themselves should have addressed. Pimax just straight up doesn't support AMD hardware at all.

There's still some stupid things going on for Radeons but I tend to blame it more on Windows than the drivers themselves.

I have probably now worked on at least 5 different machines that kept losing the Radeon driver interface when windows decides to install a different driver (got to block that). I have not had that problem with Nvidia cards.

I have lost Open CL in various multi-gpu configurations which the fix was to use much older drivers. Again not had that problem with Nvidia cards.

Certain Radeons don't like manual fan adjustments in the driver, new and old cards.

Zero RPM should absolutely be disabled by default and it would solve a lot of headaches for people.

Otherwise, I like the Radeon drivers a hell of a lot more than the Nvidia drivers.

Yes I have my hands on a lot of both red and green brand's cards, always. Haven't played around with Intel Arc so no comment on that other than they need to support f@h soon.

Still using 23.10.2 adrenaline package on my RX 6800 XT for super smooth & stable DX11 gaming with visual mods in Skyrim SE @ 144fps locked on my 144Hz monitor at 1440p.
So yeah, stable as a piece of gold for me.
I have no interest in other games for now.
In fact the whole rig is AMD to the core & super stable with OC cpu & ram as well. MTP tested ram & LinpackXtreme tested cpu.

Am I an AMD fanboy?

AMD's graphics drivers has been nothing but a joy for me all the way since RX 6800 and up upon my RX 7900 XT until I sold it to get another card that uses less power.

It feels more modern than Nvidia's control panel.

Certain Radeons don't like manual fan adjustments in the driver, new and old cards.

Zero RPM should absolutely be disabled by default and it would solve a lot of headaches for people.
I certainly can't understand why zero RPM can cause headaches. I wanted that feature to use with custom fan curves long ago and I'm glad its here.
I find the auto function a bit quirky, as I dont really understand how it works exactly. But with custom curve I couldn't be more satisfied.

Nothing but love for AMD stuff. Usually it's just Microsoft breaking stuff if an issue comes up.

Also the Red Devil 7900XTX will always be in my heart with how nice it is.

I have rejoined the Red team for my main PC and for the most part no issues apart from the black screen that shows up from time to time for a few seconds.
