How can I disable "found new hardware" for a sound driver?

Hi guys, having reinstalled XP yesterday, I'm having a problem with sound drivers. I have HD Realtek onboard sound and it works fine, but ATI keeps trying to install HD Audio drivers aswell and when they are installed it causes problems with certain games and my pc will restart.

It's definately the ATI HD audio, I sorted this out after hours of research for my error codes, event logs etc. But now every time I restart my PC I get the "found new hardware" wizard and it tries to reinstall these drivers, so I click cancel and have to go into device manager and disable it every time.

Is there a way to stop this driver from trying to install permanently? Thanks in advance.

If you are already disable the device in Device Manager, how can you hear the sound?

onboard realtek sound works fine, but theres an audio option with 4850 graphics cards that I don't want, they are conflicting, so when I disable the ATI HD audio driver everything is fine.

My guess is you need to get the Windows HD Audio driver. Somehow Windows doesn't pick that up automatically. Installing it and letting Windows connect to the internet didn't work here. You'll have to manually look it up.

windows hd audio driver? i've already installed the realtek hd audio driver it works fine. as i said above it's my graphics card trying to install HD audio aswell which I don't want.

Hmm, might be too early in the morning

You might mean audio for the HDMI connection? Maybe you can disable that through the Catalyst Control Center.

yeah u'd think wouldn't u, but no option in there, i've just changed to "disable device" in devic manager and rebooted and it seems to have stayed disabled, so hopefully sorted out, if not i'll post again, thanks for help anyway

Have you tried the latest realtek ati hdmi driver?

Also try installing it and then disable it in device manager sometimes works better than disabling it with out the driver installed.
It's a little odd getting a conflict with the ati hdmi and your realtek onboard sound since realtek makes both drivers.

ill try that 2wicked, but i think i already had the latest one, ill get back to u.

system is still crashing when i run a game (americas army) but when i uninstall the driver completely it runs fine.

I get a similar problem when i boot always giving me " found new hardware ". Now i know why its pissing me off. Ill be keeping an eye on this thread.

Don't you get the option to "Do not prompt me to Install this driver again" when the found new hardware wizard begins and you choose to cancel?

no i couldnt get it to stay disabled, always came up with "found new hardware", found a solution though and it's a crap one, i have to change speaker setting to 2channels instead of 6 channels for America's Army game.

god i hate pc's sometimes lol.

in dev man you have under properties (right click on device) the option to disable (Device usage) it

Merci, I have not used xp in a while and it is to early in the morn'.

Let the stubborn thing load the the device drivers, then go to "control panel" and "sound", look around at the the device properties in playback, record, digital, etc. and disable or enable the ones you want to use.You will need to disable the HDMI sound/sound card in the playback devices tab and make sure that the Realtek sound is seen and enabled.

I did have an issue like this back when I first had my ECS board and I had to uninstall All Realtek stuff and reinstall after installing UAA Bus Driver.
