Specs are in my signature. I took the fan off of the GPU as shown in the picture. I have modded a 140mm fan on the other side of the case.
I am selling all my crap to live in an RV and be a gypsy. Paying rent on someone elses house is stupid. I can't take a 70 lb gaming rig in an rv. I could use it for a jackstand if I got really desperate but would rather turn it into cash.
If you were going to sell this pc with a fresh copy of win 10 and all the drivers installed, what would you ask? I have a 500Gb hard drive in it now and can add 3 more.

Unfortunately you have an old FX cpu that most people just arent willing to pay for those anymore id price the system without the CPU and that's what i would sell it for. Also give it a good cleaning looks dusty. If i had to guess without looking you could probably get 400ish? that psu is hefty.

any modding from original kills resale unless its mainstream modding, like a H20 block.

parting out as PC is the best way to value it, but after 5 years, the value is pretty much nothing, unless you bought super high end components 5 years ago.

RAM, PSU if its a good PSU , CPU if its a decent CPU with current relevance, HDD's, can be parted out, but id not expect much over a few hundred at best. factor in shipping, etc you might be looking at much less

you think it is worth more in pieces?
Hi,
Buyers market so probably but you could get lucky and sell the whole system in one shot.

Lots of shipping doing piece by piece and that can leave lots of left overs.

always, as a whole you limit the number of buyers to those looking at just your specs. In pieces you increase the number of potential buyers.

i tend to just give away components after 5 years, youre not gonna get more out f that investment past the years of use you already got (except for the odd few parts than can be recycled to modern builds, or people looking for older parts )

think to yourself, how interested are you in buying a 2500k, 500Gb Maxtor HDD, a Corsair CX600, & a couple sticks of DDR3?

I agree. Churches and private schools, Salvation Army, DAVs, etc. - if it is still usable will take it off your hands and give it to a needy family - typically with school aged kids who need it. The Salvation Army will even properly "wipe" your drives. Or you can delete your personal files, then use a program like CCleaner's "Drive Wiper" feature to wipe just the free space, which will leave the operating system in tact while ensuring your old data cannot be recovered.

You quickly get the computer off your hands without it ending up polluting landfills, and someone who can actually use it and appreciate it will keep it productive - hopefully for several years to come.

I loaded up one of my old system with old hard drives, stuck it my basement, connected it to my network, then turned it into a NAS. Worked great. But since the OP is trying to shed pounds and big bulky objects to become a "full-timer", repurposing his old computer is not an option.

Very little value to be honest. Not only is it old but alot of those components where mid-range at best during it's time. A $350-400 office computer is not only going to run circles around that rig but will be all new components as well (DDR4 ram, SSD instead of mechanical HD, CPU that will be at least 3x faster).

Due to the recent video card shortage you might get $80-100 range for the 270x but that's really the only component with strong value

ok, so if you guys were going to set prices on the parts, what would they be?
Brand new hdd's are $20?
I think I spent $150 on the CPU a few years ago when I broke my 8350.
I heard $100 ish on the GPU
Toothless wants to throw me some $$ for the RAM I know I can get 2 sticks of that for like $75 on ebay
I might be able to get a new off side panel for the case It cost $100 new
The psu is F-ing massive full modular. I bought it from the computer nerd at college who used it on a crypto rig
Doubt the MOBO is worth much. One of the two GPU sockets came off literally in my hands about 15 minutes after the warranty ended.
What else is there?
I have 7 or 8 optical drives running around here I can't give away two match the two in this thing.
I have the AIO I spent 150 ish on 6 months ago
and lots of fans. I can't give the 100mm fans running around here away either. The 140mm fans might be more marketable but I live in the armpit of the planet for tech.
Convince me the parts are worth more than $400. If anyone, like toothless, is interested in any of these parts let me know. I have to have something done with this by June 1, and I need it till then.

Hi,
Point was for you too search ebay... for prices for your existing hardware
Add it all up and and see if you can sell the unit for that.

I wouldn't piece it out until you figure out if someone is willing to buy it as a whole.

I don't see how you can expect to sell it (whole or by parts) like that. If someone is looking for a computer now, they typically want it now. Same with the parts. Nobody is going to make a commitment to buy a used computer (or used parts) today, then wait 2+ months to get it.

I say you are back to using it until you need to get rid of it. Then donate it to the Salvation Army. Maybe, you can find a consignment shop to take it, but then you surely will only get chump change for it, and some of that will go back to the shop.

Are you going "off-grid" when you hit the road? Or migrating to a laptop? If migrating to a laptop, just do that now and try to sell (and get rid of) this computer now.

there is a decent sized group of people here on TPU, who i have either given parts to, or sold at a cost to cover shipping.

repurposing is also a great method for furthering the lifespan of a PC. a while back i took a few desktops from the lab at MIT, & put them to good use, & gave a the other two to people who needed them.

He can certainly try to sell it in the Buy/Sell/Trade/Giveaway Forum. But repurposing, as discussed before above, serves no purpose here because he's trying to get of thing, downsizing to go full time in a RV.

You'd be better of donating it for a tax deduction where you decide its worth.

Rule of Thumb - Take your build cost and then subtract 10% .... then 5% for each month of age for 6 months (60% value at this point) ... then 10% for every 6 months thereafter.

0.5 year old - 60% of build cost
1.0 - 50%
1.5 - 40%
2.0 - 30%
2.5 - 20%
3.0 - 10%

After that partting out is ya best option next to a giveaway to a non profit

A few years ago, I would have agreed. But note you have to itemize to claim that and with the latest tax laws the standard deductions of $12,400 for single, $24,800 for married, or $18,650 for head of household make itemizing less appealing for many. Considering the OP stated he is currently paying rent - suggesting he is not a home owner, that means he is not paying property tax on a home - the biggest deduction most tax payers have.

Nothing wrong with living in a RV, I offically live on a sailboat and when I'm not "home", a semi truck is my home.

I can sell it for you, just pay the ebay fees. PM me anytime you want, if you decide too. I used to sell full-time on ebay, its a hobby now.

That's the whole point of the exercise. Trying to figure out A, if there is a value, and B if there is a market. I wouldn't charge someone for a part and expect them to wait 60 days to get it. There are however, some folks that are far sighted enough to know maybe they would like one part or another, or maybe the whole stupid thing and understand that there are time constraints. And if I don't line up a buyer in the next 60 days I can sell it after we move into the rv. We are hanging out here for the summer just to make sure the stupid thing isn't going to break down before we hit state line.
I make next to nothing on disability. My tax liability is less than nothing.

I drove western 11 and 48. I like sleeping in my own bed. Local traffic is always the worst, where ever you are. Best part about going rving for a couple old truckers like the wife and I? No dock times, no log books, no dispatchers, no chicken coops, I don't have to run 600 miles a month much less a day if I don't really want to. And we can go see all the stuff we were curious about when we were trucking and never had time to stop.
The Iowa 80 won't be nearly as much fun, but that's the trade offs.

Looking at ebay prices and trying to undercut by just the tiniest margin, I have this.
CPU $65
PSU $150
GPU $100
Case $75
RAM $50
AIO $100
That leaves the MOBO missing one of 2 GPU plugs $25?
and maybe 10 140mm fans $10 each? I think they are all 3 pin.
That gives me just over $600 worth of parts. Seems like it is about double what I could sell it for as a whole.
Do these prices seem reasonable?

i tend to just give away components after 5 years, youre not gonna get more out f that investment past the years of use you already got (except for the odd few parts than can be recycled to modern builds, or people looking for older parts )

think to yourself, how interested are you in buying a 2500k, 500Gb Maxtor HDD, a Corsair CX600, & a couple sticks of DDR3?

It's funny you all mentioned this. I'm about to bring something back from years ago...

Those prices are, IMO, a bit optimistic. Expect probably closer to 75% of your listed prices, except for perhaps the graphics card. Might even get more than a Benjamin for that. Cases in particular are a tough sell online because they cost so much to ship. Remember to look at Sold listings when pricing for sale, which suggests:

CPU - $50
PSU - $100-120
GPU - $100
Case - $??, but may not sell well without the fans.
RAM - $50
AIO - $80
MB - $?? Used motherboards are funny. Old ones can be in high demand since old boards die, but old procs generally don't. You could see as much as fifty bucks if you're lucky. In-demand boards listed as Parts Only sell for at least $20.

That's still $300-400, which is at least $100 more than you'd likely get selling the tower whole. But in the current market, all bets are off, particularly since you're not selling until June.

Edit: Couple more things. Free Shipping helps sell, so that plus fees will take a combined 10-20% bite.
