@W1zzard Is this meant to be RX 7900 XTX? It says RX 7970 XTX at least in forum mode.

I'm happy that AMD decided to leave some overclocking headroom. It seems like they tuned for efficiency instead of jamming the clocks to the maximum and power hogging it.

Energy efficiency sucks and RDNA3 reminds me of Vega. Basically good performance but at the cost of power consumption. Should nVIDIA lower the price of the 4080 to 7900XT/XTX levels it's the better product in my opinion - especially when it comes to energy efficiency and RT. Even if the 4080 will be marginally more expensive than the 7900's I would rather get nVIDIA (again, just switched, because I did not like nVIDIA's greedy approach in terms of Ada) or - as I already did, get an RDNA2 GPU's or even RTX 3000 instead. There's no need to upgrade to the current generation if you can get a last gen GPU far below it's former MSRP that will be more than fast enough for most cases.

Significantly worse than I both expected and hoped, however, it is not a bad product. Custom models with higher power allowance and improved cooling will make nice flagship-tier cards. Shame that the 4090 is 25%+ faster, and NVIDIA has room in the AD102 to make an even faster product... God help us all with the pricing, since the flagship GPUs dictate the ceiling even if you don't purchase them

Good, a but pricey, but what is not pricey today ?
I think you should add the ideal price in your reviews.
You've tested many things along these years, and you know the market.
Sometimes we see in the "Cons" column, "a bit pricey", then you should tell us what should be the "correct" price.
(dunno if it's very clear :/)
exemple : the 7900XT is now overpriced (vs 7900XTX), but we could jump in for, saying 700 $

Its not bad if you can keep it cool and OC it. I actually think its a good product with the OC headroom. I do believe that the card should have had at least half the OC headroom in its base design.

Hi,
Catching up to 3090ti is anticlimactic to say the least
So 40 series price gouge fest continues I was hoping for a good price correction instead but that is not going to happen now.
Only price correction now is if sells suck on both sides.

I think the XTX is a good card.. New architecture for GPUs (Chiplets) so i feel like major driver improvements are to come.
I'd buy one if i didn't have a $1700 Monitor (with the GSYNC Hardware built into it) I'm sure freesync would work fine with it, its just a mental thing, guess that's one way they "trap" you in.. lol

it could've costed a bit less but its P2P is much better then a 4080. I tried to get a 7900 XTX but when i added it to my cart it became unavailable, so I settled for a 7900 XT which will be a big upgrade from my GTX 970

Don't know if any knows that there is a hot fix driver out now for the 7900 series, 22.12.1.

I was hoping for a proper market disruptor, and the 7900XTX just isn't, it's a great card, happy to see innovation in the way it's been engineered, might be a foretelling of things to come, but as it is right now, will make little to no difference to the way the status quo is, and I thought AMD was trying to rock the boat a-la Ryzen.

Was hoping for at least parity or slightly better on the perf/watt side, but that isn't the case at all. Cranking clocks up until they match the raw perf of the competition isn't what I wanted to see.

That the quality is lacking, if any thing they should of fixed the power delivery. Performance wise it's pretty good they just were not to clear about what needs to be done to get it.

How ever it's a hell lot more efficient than my 390X, be lucky to get 35fps at 4k, and going by what @W1zzard said 60Hz 12Xw a hell lot less than my 390X is doing with less FPS, maybe i missed some thing or info is missing a surly the 60Hz and different resolutions would effect the usage ?.

It's about what I expected, AMD seems to have settled into only competing with nvidia's second best and down cards for awhile now. When I saw their 1.5-1.7x claims I figured it would be closer to 1.2-1.4x and that's right where it landed.

I also expected some issues due to it being a MCM GPU, and that has happened. The performance and power draw are a little wonky, not the end of the world, had I not jumped on a 6800xt I'd likely be looking into a 7900xtx.

Drivers will likely address the power draw issues somewhat with tuning of MCM, and we may see some 5-10% gains over its life. I still think AMD needs to stop leaving so much on the table every launch but its not world shattering, its rasterization competitive with the 4080 and that's what really matters.

First gen ryzen didnt rock much either (in terms of sales). There was a buzz about it but it was zen+ that really started displacing intel's spot in new gaming PCs.

It DID succeed in getting intel to pay attention. That's not an issue with nvidia who is still making bigger, faster stuff, but it also is forcing down prices of the 4080 and 4070ti so it's having the desired effect.

I think the biggest issue here is AMD doubled the shader count but....didnt seem to actually do anything with them. The RT improvements are not in line with the hardware increase. Something needs tweaked.

Same as with all ATI cards since original Radeon, with the exception of 9xxx series when nvidia had their little 4-pipe 4-shader FX experiment going, worse than expected.

Nah, those weren't impressive, more of a nvidia bumbling around and not knowing what to do with themselves. When nv competition released a few months later, they were clear winners again, so.
And no, I'm not for nvidia, I'm just extremely disappointed with AMD and the crap they've been doing just when they got the chance to (i.e. more cash-flow).
