How does the gtx 275 compare?

I know I should just run my games and see the results for myself but work has been brutal lately and I just want to relax in front of the stupid box (TV) and have a beer in the evenings....

So, where does the GTX 275 stack up in regards to both Nvidia and AMD offerings today? I just finished ordering the last parts for a new i5 2500k build and I'm thinking of reusing my vid card (the gtx 275). I haven't bought a new game in about 2 yrs so I can't really tell if it has enough brute force for the latest games anymore. If I replaced it I'd only be looking in the $150 range max. I still like my old games and actually prefer to spend more time outside anymore. The good news is the girlfriend expressed interest in being able to play some games finally. The last thing she played was a Nintendo 64 (well and Rock Band), so she doesn't have much in regards to standards and the old games will do her well for quite some time.

Long story short, how well does the GTX 275 stand up to graphics cards at about the $150 price range. And to a lesser extend how about the $110 price range (AMD 6770 and lower)?

275 = 550Ti from nvidia

6770 = 5770 = 4870 1gb with DX11 added on top so essentially in DX9 and DX10 games 6770 5770 4870 are the same


GTX 460 in DX9 and DX10 is about the same as a 275 550Ti is a slightly less performance then a GTX 460 1gb but roughly its 275 performance,

If that's the case I'll prob hold off a little longer for a video card upgrade. I know the 275 will cosume a lot more power (especially since I bought the one off ebay that has the added gts 250 onboard for physics.... I bought it to fold with). However I'm currently on site for work and the apt and utilities are all paid for.

I would go and say that in DX9\10 the GTX275 is faster then the GTX550TI, its more like the GTX460 1GB SE or slightly slower then the radeon HD6790

i'm still rocking a gtx 285 and it plays all my games just fine.

By the way you can buy a HD6850 from newegg for 145$ + Dirt3
I have experience with that version, it overclocks well (i could get up to 30% increase in performance)

Any actual real upgrade worth while would be a GTX 570 or HD 6970 - they would provide roughly the equivalence of 2 GTX 275 in SLI + another 5-15% improvement. Dual GTX 280s could play with a single GTX 570 in some games, but for the most part the 570 at stock was 10-15% better. So it should hold true for the GTX 275 if you ran 2 in SLI.

Anything under a GTX 570 or Hd 6970, in my opinion, are not worth the time of day for you. If you don't want to upgrade to those, maybe in 4-6 months when the new lines come out you might find something more to your liking.

OK, I still have a GTX275 but it's retired now. It was the EVGA FTW edition clocked at 732MHz core, basically performing like a GTX285. It plays every game out there at 1680x1050 on highest settings or close to that at above 30FPS. It's very close to the GTX460 which in turn is close to AMD 6850, both at around 150$ after rebates. Minus DX11 of course. The only real upgrade as already mentioned would be the GTX570, almost doubles the framerates but the cost is above 300$.
