How is this PSU still a best seller after everything ?

The P750GM and the rest of its series are one of the most review bombed and catastrophically failing ticking time bomb PSUs, if the low user score dosnt catch a buyer's attention then most tech outlets and some youtubers have made videos regarding why this PSU should be avoided, its also a very hot topic in PSU forms is a very negative way.... Despite this people still buy this and is apparently .... A 1# BEST SELLER ???!!

Seriously why people keep buying this ?
If i saw a PSU with 3 eggs or below average score am baling out.

curios to read other thoughts on this .

Man people must REALLY like gigabyte then ... huh :ohwell:

Its quite a shame for gigabyte really, they seems to be selling those PSUs really well, if they actually partnered with a reliable OEM to make a good product, they could have stormed the PSU market, sadly it is what it is and word of mouth and reputation of those PSUs will come full in debt sooner or later, after that gigabyte brand will be long stained in the PSU space for a while.

yeah, and their PR is really good, like ASUS, some of them are so so but people just hook at the brand and ignoring the rest

Isn't it bundled with other components like GPU? If it is, you've got your answer.

Might be because it is bundled with everything. Might also be that it was on sale for like 30% of retail price for awhile.

Yep, as others have mentioned, it all comes down to it being bundled with other stuff, mainly GPUs. If you look at the actual customer reviews on Newegg for that PSU, they all pretty much say its a garbage unit.

Retailers have many tricks up their sleeve.
@Johnny05 already mentioned GPU bundles, but even during normal times you may see things like that because retailers don't advertise stuff that's already selling well - they mostly feature products that either don't sell as good as expected or they need to get rid of. That's why there isn't a single sub-600W Seasonic or Corsair, or "best bang for the buck" EVGA on "best selling list" - they are just too good and sell well on their own.

Well people certainly aren't buying the standalone unit because it's the cheap option. Right now you could easily get a SuperFlower Leadex III 850W or Corsair RM750X for the same money :kookoo:

In fairness to Gigabyte, the problem everyone is complaining about has been resolved. That PSU is now perfectly fine.

Stupidity.

Although it is getting pretty close to the 4th of July and people do love their fireworks.
Timing is everything you know - Get it now, watch it go up later and hope it's on the 4th and you know how we LOVE our smokey B-B-Q's on that day.
I mean look, it even has a little grilling rack right above the fan so it can blow smoke onto whatever you're B-B-Q'ing for nice-n-smokey flavor. :D

I believe this is due to people not "Knowing" about it's inherent problems and for some just stupidity in general. Some will read the reviews and are like "It won't happen to me".....
Then it Giga-bites their ass.

Another factor is the price associated with the brandname, I mean it's a Gigabyte so it must be good right?
This 750 Grenade Module is a hot item, seems you certainly get the best "Bang" for the buck out of it.

I'll admit even I wasn't aware of this PSU's problems but then again I haven't had any need to shop for one in a very long time (5+ years).

Still running my Hercules 1600 with 0 issues to mention and have a couple of other PSU's on the side as backups if I ever do.

More needs to be said in more places.... Maybe GN, Hardware Unboxed....
Someone can review and blast it for what it is.

EDIT:
If they have solved the problems as the above post indicates, that's good but I'm sure many would want it proven as fact.
Just sayin.

Looks for most part a long side with stupid.

For the most part, it's Seasonic or nothing, there are others but typically no reason to waste time looking at others for the most part.

To me it's not just about how well it works but the support when\if it goes wrong and my last dealing with Seasonic was tot notch,.

Preying on brand recognition for sure..

Yeah it works, and it works well. I bought a 1kw unit with long warranty and don't need to think about power for a decade.

While you've got the grill fired up, I'd like mine WELL DONE.

I know the PSU will be.
This kind of thing is unsafe and you know where all that can lead, another reason why I'd be weary of these even if a fix has been done.

As an example, NZXT said they has fixed their cases yet the problem they had was still there.... And may be even now - I dunno.

Man people must REALLY like gigabyte then ... huh
That goes a long way. I happen to REALLY like Gigabyte motherboards. I have had great success with them. But what really made me a loyal fan was when they RMA'd a dead 4-year old motherboard, no questions asked, even though it only had a 3-year old warranty.

How a company treats me "after-the-sale" plays a HUGE role in how I value that company and especially whether or not I will become a repeat customer. Most companies realize that too. But not all.

Sadly, many companies that do great with one product try to expand their business (and profits) by venturing out into other product lines. But rather than doing their own designing and manufacturing, they outsource to other companies that may or may not have the same standards in quality. That's not necessarily bad AS LONG AS the "brand" company is aggressive at demanding, testing, and ensuring those OEM products meet brand's standards before they put their brand logos on the product.

It appears Gigabyte failed in that with their "MEIC" made supplies - an OEM manufacturer I personally never heard of - not that that really means anything

On fairness to Gigabyte, the problem everyone is complaining about has been resolved. That PSU is now perfectly fine.
^^^This.^^^

I don't know how long it took between becoming aware of the problem and fixing it. I hope it was as quick as possible and there was no attempt at all to sweep it under the rug.

It is important to avoid being biased. Declaring a entire brand as no good, when they make so many products, many of which are great, is allowing our biases to cloud our judgement. It is just the reverse of fanboyism. Not good.

Stupidity.

Nah! That's not fair. Everybody here was a newbie once and made newbie mistakes. That does not make us stupid. We don't know who the buyers were but chances are, they were new to the self-build, self-upgrade arena and/or were inexperienced. They may have known enough to go for a name brand, and "Gold" certified. But not enough to thoroughly suss out the facts and (here's the tricky part) separate those facts from the marketing hype. That takes experience - typically though "trial by error".

Being "naïve" and "inexperienced" is much more likely why so many purchased that PSU. That does not make them stupid.

Making the same mistake over and over again after knowing the true facts, and expecting a different outcome each time, now that's probably stupid.

Hm.

Cant understand someone liking GB much. Ive seen how they design their motherboards, their GPUs, QC on their LCDs. Basically everything there screams "avoid at any cost". No amount of PR or friendliness towards customers can change that.
