I have a chinese branded PSU that I bought in 2002 and it is still powering my new pentium Kaby Lake system.

I had a cx600 that i got around the same time you got yours (microcenter) that ran until very recently, when the capacitor finally popped, & oozed out its delicious electrolytes & steamy smoke.

My nephew came downstairs and said "uncle my computer is smoking":pimp: . Even though the capacitor had popped it continued to power the computer until my nephew turned it off manually

No name brand?
That is Awesome!

Corsair HX850 in 2009 and still going strong.

i wonder if the higher end units You guys have use the same SAMXON capacitors my "crappy" CX600 did......everyone talked sh!t about theCX series, but my exp wasnt indicative of those claims others make......:wtf:

i remember when My buddy & myself went to Cambridge to Microcenter, he wouldnt buy one of the CX units, he wanted to order a "reliable" model online  he bought an ANTEC, i had to replace it a few years later....he still wouldnt buy a corsair, he went with NZXT iirc.

I'm not sure, I am not going to look lol.....

I have a new power supply in my gaming rig but my test bench has a HX 850 I've had from 2011. It's been working hard too. I have literally smoked a motherboard trying to get it working. I guess it had a short on the power phase

Samxon are alright capacitors. They aren't exceptional, but they aren't crap either.

Bought an Antec HCP back in late 2011 and it is still running today.

I kind of have a "backwards" experience with power supplies. All expensive ones either malfunction or die, while the cheap ones keep chugging away for years to come.
The longest-living specimens are:
- 350W Chieftec w/ passive PFC. Modded from 20-pin to 20+4 and replaced peripheral lanes w/ one 6+2-pin PCIe and only left one peripheral strand w/ SATA connectors. Works fine since 2003. 2 years ago was converted to a Tesla Coil PSU.
- 400W Athenapower PS3 PSU (kinda like SFX). Got it in a trade deal (box of crap for a box of other crap) back in 2005-2006. Used it on my testbench up until 2017, and then gave it to my friend as a temporary PSU for his HTPC rig. Regardless of all the "mediocre" reviews, my unit held up better than even newer/better ones.
- My favorite EVGA 500W (not even B). Powered my Westmere monstrocity for almost 5 years. Now migrated to my friend's mining rig and so far runs 6xRX560 without a hitch. Now replaced by a Seasonic S12G ( 450W 80+ GOLD).

it served me just shy of 10 years, so ill take another helping of alright anyday. :)

That was my last corsair psu, now ive got 2x seasonic, evga, nzxt.

Currently I have; Corsair TX650M purchased in 2010 and was demoted last month from my gaming PC to my wifes PC because I grabbed a seasonic focus 650 plus for $50. Antec neo -eco 400w in another PC that has been running fine since 2008. Corsair CX430 bronze (version 3) that has been running with no issues since 2014. I also have a cooler master elite 400w (came packaged with a CM 912 case) that has been running fine 40hrs per week, every week since 2013.

I have a OCZ 500W I had in my 5000+ rig still kicking around retired from active service but still like new

I had a 305w Dell PSu (delta OEM) that ran a windsor athlon x2 6000 and Nvidia 9800GT video card with no issue, that unit was built like a tank.

Of all the OEMs that I have purchased, seasonic has caused the most issues with two separate units (two different brands) both suffering from coil whine although I've owned six seasonic units over the years. I've owned four CWT built PSU and never once had a single issue with any of them. For a long time you saw PSU for the DIY PC builder offer fantastic review performance but mediocre reliabilty. Meanwhile many PSU for mass produced PCs (outside of emachines, their PSU were paperweights from day one) offered mediocre review performance and fantastic reliability. Recently you are now seeing the best of both worlds with brand warranties lasting 7-10 years instead of 3-5 for the DIY PC builder.

I still have my AX1200's I bought with my EVGA X58 rigs, they seem to be keep on going without any issues, verry impressed with them however the newer AX1200i's I have had.. Not impressed at all.. Some melted connectors and never protected against the fact.. That said, you get good ones and bad ones.. That said, I won't ever buy another Corsair PSU again..

That said, I still have the original PSU that's powering my Abit NF7-S Rev 2 board, so it can't all be bad.. Antec 350w I think it might be...

Yep, I've noticed that on my unit too. Always whining in standby, even louder than cheapest of the cheap Zalman ZM-500LE. And that's a friggin' 80+ GOLD PSU!
Though, it's stable and a lot colder than others, which is what I need in my ITX rig. I still don't like the nuisance of shutting off the power strip under my desk every night (my PC is in a bedroom).

I have a TX650 that has been through several systems since 2011, and it's still chugging along.

I always recommend buying quality PSUs from reliable name brands even though they typically cost a pretty penny. The problem I have convincing some of my clients to budget more for quality, name brand supplies is there are so many off-brand, no-name generic PSUs in antique Dells, Compaqs, HP systems that are still chugging along flawlessly after years and years of service.

I have seen many of these where the PC cases have NEVER been opened up in over 10 years and it looks like the inside of a vacuum cleaner bag in there. Yet somehow the cheap, generic, very inefficient PSU still works - as does the CPU who's heatsink fan is so caked with dust, crumbs, hair and more that it can barely spin. The only reason I opened the cases and discovered that scary mess in there was because I was called in to add RAM or more drive space - not because the computer developed problems.

It is hard to make an argument to spend more on a quality PSU with so much evidence out there cheap, budget supplies work too. :banghead:

both PSU in specs were bought in 2016 and are still going strong (the CM did sit for awhile tho until the fx8350 build). before that i had a corsair CX 1000 go 8 strong years before being replaced only due to age....my old i5 2400 rig had a Tt 500w and it went belly up in less then a year leading me to get the CM 80+ bronze unit :D

Corsair TX650W more than 5 years.

I have swapped fans in it a few times though.

My Antec EarthWatts 430D has run 24/7 since April 2011 with F@H and then BOINC. I blow the dust out every so often and it just keeps going.

TX750 about 5 years old, but never left running(always shut off after using it)<that is the key @OP can be old but not on all the time.

my opinion if you have average brand psu or high end, and never run it on max, i mean dependence your system needs on full load 610W and your PSU 650W, sure your PSU dont hold for 10 years :)
but if you have some extra space for him, psu fan and inside cleaned from time to time, why that psu should die fast ?
