300Watts would be more than enough, given you dont OC your pants off(providing the 300W PSU is decent).

I agree with Mathragh, 300 W is plenty for a system that doesn't draw much power. Just doing a rough guess using Thermaltake's PSU calculator I got a recommended PSU wattage of 273 Watts. Power supplies that are good (not a full list): Corsair, Silverstone, Thermaltake, Antec, etc

If you are referring to the benchies done here on Techpowerup for the 8600GT, then I think you forgot that the power draw measured was for the whole system, not the 8600GT by itself.

However, if you look at the TDP of the 8600GT alone, then it would more be in the range of 50Watts Source.

I know Wiki isnt the best source, but 47Watts seems more realistic then 190Watt(since 8600GT is by no means a high end model).
Therefore, following your reasoning, the total system draw should be 192W or with fans 207W.

Sooo, 300W would probably still be fine.

Lols, everyone happy in the end! So I suppose theoretically 300 Watts should be fine, but 350Watts is recommended. That settles it then I guess.

Ok then I will have enough with my micro-atx psu 380W. Thx. Yes btw it sounds familiar. I was suppose to give that setup but my own HTPC just blew. So I'll keep it until I buy my FM2 setup.

An 8600 would normally require 24A and a 350W PSU minimum total system power for gaming, but given the limitation to HTPC duties, I would think 300w would suffice. You can get a 300w Seasonic for around $37.

An 8600 GT can only draw up to ~6A of power, as it has no external power connections. Any old 300 watt PSU should be alright, as even my Dimension 530 w/ a Xeon X3210 quad and a GT 240 at one point was perfect with the stock 305w unit.
