I'd say about 2%. The only time they ever matter to me is if they give me a creative new way to approach a game. Other than that I'll occasionally check to see what I just did that warranted one, but other than that I don't care. I do know that some people ate absolute junkies for these. They have to do every single one no matter how wacky. Where do you fall on the scale?

I usually finish the game without looking at them. After I finish it and I decide I want to play more, I look at them. Sometimes I immediately go for low hanging fruit. Sometimes it looks like a grind so I put the game aside for something else. Sometimes I gotta catch 'em all. If I didn't particularly like the game, I won't even bother checking.

Care? Not at all.

I used to really work at them when I had hours of time to game, but not anymore. The "Little Rocket Man" cheevo was probably the most involved I ever got on chasing one down.

Yeah I'm sorry but when it comes to ways of buying them umm no thanks. Like my sister's kids and fortnite. Paying for skins or weapons, etc. Back when killing Floor came I had to *Play for weeks/months to earn them. As far as getting a award that doesn't mean anything to the player is stupid other than the fact others can look and be like "Hmm he's got a lot of headshots, etc. but it All come down to the internet you have and pc specs or if on console then internet. If on Wi-Fi then yeah you suck which they complain alot but we're not spending $$$ for cables

I don’t see any harm in them. If anything, they inspire some gamers to keep playing and get more out of the game they payed for. It’s not like anyone is being forced to get them. Some are even funny, like when you kill Jar Jar Binks in LEGO Star Wars and get the “Crowd pleaser” achievement.

Some games seem to barely have any, so it almost seems like a developer philosophy.

Not a single care in the world - I just play the game, and play it how i like rather than follow some breadcrumb trail that leads to something absolutely meaningless.

Give me places to explorer, things to interact with and an immersive storyline that i can escape into.

The last game I went thru and got every achievement in was DNF.

Some were SO stupid, I just had to, lol

I've tried in Doom, but there are still ones I've missed.

Liesure Suit Larry I tried, but I never got the last point; only 221 out of 222.

Benchmark Scores Faster than yours... I'd bet on it. :)
When the game gets old... I'll start achievements. That said, I only touch mpfps (BF, COD, Fornite, Apex, PUBG) so there isnt much there.

depends on the game.. mostly ignore them unless they're "right there".

That really depend's on what they are, and on the game, and if there's a reward or not and if that reward is something meaningful or just stupid (stupid can be good, depending on the game). Some of the tougher achievements in WoW were fun to chase down (if you like grinding, which I weirdly sorta do), some are just stupid (You've Built Your First Axe!), some are insanely hard and therefore kinda worth it if the game is so good you can see yourself working up the skills required. At first I rejected them, but now I kinda see the point ... depending entirely on the implementation obviously.

Pretty much don't care at all, maybe when I'm bored and finished the game I look at them and check what I did but I won't go back just to do more.

Theres only 1 game where I bothered with something similar 'Instanced MMO' but thats also mainly because I was helping someone to get them, that was enough for me to last a lifetime.

It's a factor for me depending on the game I like and if I'm playing it on PS system, I currently have 13 platinum(100% core trophies) on my PSN account and they are all games I enjoyed playing.
There are few I wish I could get but can't anymore due to online requirements.

Zero point zero, in fact I'd prefer them gone. Immersion breaking popups in game... whoever figured that out should be shot in the face.

Its an easy, cheap for the dev way to create fake replay value. As if you can't think up your own challenges if you really wanted to... I don't know it just pushes all the wrong buttons for me - misplaced peer pressure / epeening (honestly I think you're a sad case if this is what you're proud of), content that isn't really content, the aforementioned pop ups that do not benefit in-game progression in any way while breaking immersion... meh.

And no I'm not being grumpy. This is one of those things, like the presence of a cash shop, that is detrimental to gaming. Minor, but detrimental. Focus on the core product, make it better. Achievements don't do that.

Benchmark Scores They're pretty good, nothing crazy.
they're only good if they expose gameplay elements that are fun and easy to miss (ex:fly over X thing and do whatever -- oh I can fly over that? cool.) , otherwise they are pointless (shoot X zombies in the head).

most steam games have entirely too many achievements listed limiting the first scenario.

Same. I mostly find entertaining the ones i unlock for playing the game as i do, with my style. I don't play as "bad" charachters and if there is a non violent way of making an objective i take that path. But yes, i don't care about the. I care about the game itself.

Never looked at them before. What I don't like is how they pop up in Steam. Origin seems to have a similar feature but they aren't pop ups in game. Why Steam cannot figure out how to disable the achievement pop up in game is beyond me. I've been patiently waiting for around a decade.

You should try Epic Games Store. The achievements there don't ruin immersion.

Depends on what game calls an achievement .. for example, in Saga of Ryzom provides achievements for:

1. Gear

Equipping a set of +Health Jewels of level 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 ... at 250that adds 1250 HP to my toon
Again for + Sap (magic power)
Again for + Stamina (aka melee power)
Again for + Focus (aka harvesting power)

Then all of the above for armor

Then all of the above for weapons

2. Exploring

Visit all the important places in one of the lakes subregion
Again for the other 6 subregions in lakes

All of the above for the other 5 major regions

All of the outposts in the 6 regions

3. Skills

Reach level 20, 50, 100, 150, 200 and 250 in a skill
Reach Level 230 in 5, 10, 15, 20 ... 60, all 63 skills

On the way, there's achievements broken down in 4 categories (melee, magic, craft and harvest

4. Fame

Reach maximum fame level with various factions and factions

5. Occupations

Reaching various levels in 8 occupations

6. Heroic Deeds

various rewards for completing a complete set of the above

The thing is , you are going to want to do almost all of these this anyway. Would you ever say ....

- Nah not worth my time to get level 250 armor / weapons
- Nah I'm not interested in exploring that region
- Maybe you might say ... Oh I just wanna be a tank ... why ? Leveling magic makes you a better tank because now you have better resistance to being attacked and killed by magic. Not harvesting, means crap gear
-Fame is useless at 1st glance except that my raising your fame with tribes, factions .. they pay you more ... they charge you less. If your fame is above a certain level, then when being chased by a bunch of whatever, if you get in range of them, thy will help defend you against whatever ... if it is below a certain level, if ya get w/i range they kill you ... so you are gonna want to be at the minimum
-Occupations... yeah they give nice rewards and the highest level once are the best so ya gonna do them too

So achievements that have a monetray cost, want nothing to do with that. But almost all of the above provide worthwhile IG rewards and the achievement is like "getting the gold star" in elementary school. As for the fame, getting the trigger points where you go from getting KoS'd to getting aid are significant. Getting better pay for missions is helpful but really don't care for "better prices" as anything they selling I can make better .... But I'll take on a few extra missions on to get to max fame ... to get that gold star so to speak. It's a nice break from routine and doesn't involve a lot of effort.

I should note that the game's been around 15 years and average player age is > 35. And yes, there are a number of folks playing since the get go who "haven't finished yet"

You should try Epic Games Store. The achievements there don't ruin immersion.

If only I could transfer all my Steam games and other Steam features to Epic's program. :p

Until then, Valve needs to fix this. You know you're doing something wrong when the pirated versions have an advantage over the Steam versions. The legit version should be superior in every single way.
