How to get rid of shell prompt item?

When you right click on any folder you get this annoying Catalyst Control Center thing, how do I get rid of that? I don't see the option in their Control Center driver options or I am totally missing it.

Hopefully I don't have to resort to registry hacking, right?

u mean when u right click on the desktop? Uninstall CCC and only install the driver if u don't want it.

Looks like you might have to. I can't vouch for these instructions, so try at your own risk and remember to backup your registry first!

it's easy to get rid of right click menu items,
START > RUN > regedit.exe

MY COMPUTER > HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT > * > shellex > ContextMenuHandlers

and delete the key that refers to your "ATI CATALYST ® CONTROL CENTER"

If you want to remove the 'ATI Catalyst Control Center' entry which appears in your context menu (i.e. when you right-click on the Windows Desktop), follow the procedure below. Note that I find this is a handy way to access the CCC, so it's not vital that you remove it. However if you still want to remove it:

1. Start the Windows Registry Editor by going to Start>Run and typing "Regedit" (without quotes).

2. In the Registry Editor, go to the following key:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Directory\Background\shellex\ContextMenuHandlers

3. Delete the 'ACE' entry (and any other ATI-related entries) by right-clicking on its folder and selecting Delete to remove the entire folder and its contents.

You can now check the effects of this immediately by going back to your desktop and right-clicking to check the context menu. The ATI Catalyst Control Center entry will be gone, but note that this cannot be "undone", so either backup using System Restore if you're not sure about this modification, or simply reinstall the ATI Catalysts and the entry will be recreated.

You can make a backup of any part of the registry tree by using "Export" in the right click menu. It writes out a .reg file that you can then click on later if you want to restore. Not for novices!
