for vmem i got 2.31 is that safe for gddr3 still have 1.32 for vgpu. Have mem at 1125Mhz stable in furmark haven't gone farther trying to get core higher

if you have adequate cooling on the mem, i would say 2.35 is safe, but no higher.
the fact that you still have 1.32 vddc tells me that your card's voltage cannot be controlled by software/bios. the later cards that were still on ref. pcb's had this option removed. have you tried pencil modding it?

Like... duh!

Seems my card isn't such a bad overclocker after all! I got a new case, so better cooling obviously, and decided I'd try to take things up a notch. And I was right!

Previously I got 891/1170 before artifacts spoiled the fun.

Yesterday I started roughly cranking it up, still without pencil mod obviously.

First off, core @ 910, mem @ 1200ish, no problems....:twitch: I figured it could be done then.
I went tweaking with big steps mind you. Next step:
Core 930, mem 1300 - vid freezes. afaik that happens when the core is over its top.
Core 920, mem 1300 - 3DMark06 runs fine until Deep Freeze, where the image is split in half and copied twice onto the screen somehow. Not sure whether that's the core or the mem, but I suspect the mem.
Core 920, mem 1250 - 3DMark06 success! FurMark + Orthos gets me GPU temps under 60:cool:

...that's when I realised it was way past midnight and I had to work today. More to come and obviously proof when I'm satisfied.

it looks to be very similar to the reference board. maybe it is, i haven't seen a 3850 in ages, lol.
there was an alternate pencil mod for those of you who ddon't have r1222, lemme see if i can dig it up.:toast:

ha. ground point is easy.
just put the ground lead in one of the ground pins of a molex connector, ground it to the case, or one of the screws on the card.

Ground use a screw on the card as RANDOM mentioned mor the case.
For measuring the core volts i point u 2 places. The 1st is the most likely to give u the voltage. If it doesnt try the other spot. But i am preety sure it will be the right.

Switched my VF1000 from the 3870 to the 4850 (Asus, single slot, nasty jet sounds)
But I can't get you specs now as I'm at work and stuff :p

aha!
i believe that is the chip we're looking for!
lemme dig through my data sheets and i'll get back to you.

EDIT:
It is indeed the sacred chip we have been questing for.
pin 13 is your feedback pin. we need to follow the traces this pin follows to ground. think you can handle that?
btw, in case you didn't know, the pins are numbered counter-clockwise from the dot on the corner. think of the dot as 0 and the pin immediately counter-clockwise is pin 1.
