How to revoke GTA IV key

A while ago I installed GTA IV from dvd, it did not had steam yet.
I bought a samsung 840 evo ssd and was using rapid mode which messed up my windows installation and had to do a factory reset since windows would not load anymore.

After that all was fine without using rapid mode and never had a problem again.
Then I started using steam, I did not know you could activate any game on steam if you had a key so I bought GTA IV on steam back then. Now I gave the GTA IV DVD to my nephew but now he can't activate the game on steam.

The problem is, with my previous messed up windows I was ofcourse unable to revoke the GTA IV key.

Is there anything I can do?

If the key for GTA4 was activated on steam, u need to let him borrow ur account, otherwise how could u even install and game it without?

No I did not had steam before, I had installed GTA IV from the dvd's.

and if he wants to make a steam account, you can transfer the key I believe.

He already has steam, I have bought GTA IV on steam, and I gave the GTA IV dvd box to my nephew.

When he enters the key from the GTA IV DVD booklet in steam, he gets an error,
since the DVD key was not revoked because my previous windows installation was messed up.

The retail verison of GTA 4 that you passed on to your nephew contains a cd key... Does it look like this:

Grand Theft Auto IV CD Keys in this format: 1ABCD-D3FGH-45I67 (not actual key)

If not and the key looks different, it can't be activated on Steam. That may be why he's having difficulty. Taken from here

It's a very long key on the booklet, so you are saying thats the issue?

it may be a non-steam key. Which means just pop the DVD in and install it.

Yeah he should try to install with the dvd's then, I thought it would be nice via steam since you would not need to install the patches.

That I don't know. I've never dabbled in GTA 4 and it's been a long time since I've manually patched games :laugh:

If the patches are cumulative then you'll just need the last one but I don't know.

I just took a quick gander and saw the latest patch, and it's only 100mb and contained certain fixes. I'd say that unless you can fid the latest with all cumulative patches, just dl and install each one.

If you go to their site and they literally have every patch to download then that is what you should do. If you only needed the latest patch then I'm sure that is the only patch that would be available.
