Cheers to all. Please help me with a suggestion.I have a big problem with my video card.I have an gtx 980ti reference card.Well, all is fine in idle my video card have interval between 24-31 degree, but when I launch a game like Wolfenstein II-The new colossus my video card go on 83 degree and is very dangerous.I launch tweak GPU-Z and my video card goes to 83 dgree because Fan Speed RPM on automatic is going to only 45% equivalent with 78-83 degree. If I set manually fan speed rpm to 60% with MSI afterburner ALL is FINE and temp drop to 62 degree. My dilemma is: WTF,why not going on automatic fan speed to 60 percent when a game launches??Why is going only to 45% fan speed rpm?Is there any way to set in NVidia driver or registry windows to going at 60% fan speed rpm when I launch game?I don t want to use always msi afterburner to set fan speed rpm is not fair.In my opinion video card must be cooled when playing game. The noise is not a problem for me,i want goes on automatic to 60% under load.
is not fair...video card in my opinion must be coled suitable with no program like msi afterburner.Video card in my opinion must be coled with more rpm on automatic under load
a video card must not depend on a program like msi afterburner.I don t understand NVidia its like a conspiracy

p.s my video card is clean,no dust and i replaced thermal compound with MX-2

^ I told him to use the custom fan curve to set the board to go to 100% when above 60 degrees Celsius and 40% for when it is below that. And to not get a reference design card next time and that AMD reference design cards are just as hot.

He said he didn't want to use Afterburner

Just improve the case air flow I think the max is 92c

For another people to understand our language: why this reference 980ti card have boost to 1215mhz?is weird because on gpu-z default clock is 1000 and with boost is max 1076mhz.Under load my card goes to 1215mhz,Is hotter because boost of 1215?:(

edit: my dream is to NVidia release a new driver to increase rpm to 60% under load automatically, but is only dream for me :(
My concern to have 60% rpm under load because I want to prolong video card life.....that's why I want less degree under load. And for me 60% fan speed rpm is not noisy under load.Over 65% become noisy

Make sure you do not have a cable obstructing fan rotation.

Use AB for fan curves.

Replace crap thermal compound on gpu die, pads on ram/vrm too...

if now on winter weather have 83c,at summer what can I do??I forgot to mentioned,my unit is set outside on balcony where ambient temperature is 15-16 degree now.thats why im worried, and my case is thermaltake VA9000 bws big tower with one 200mm on side, one 120mm back, and 2x120mm front.I think I have all condition like north pole and my card seems doesn t care about ambient temperature, only in idle is stay at 19-24c(perfect temperature).......that's why im sad and confuse
Before of this card I have many strong video card, and no one goes 70 degree in full load in the same case, ambient bla bla bla....
this card is insane it rises 60 degree over idle temp under load....im very confuse,i don t understand nothing..

The card is designed to run at that temperature, and is actually targeting that temperature and is adjust gpu clock speed and fan speed to hold it there, and it's allowing it to go to 83c to keep the card as quiet as possible. If it starts getting warmer it will raise the fan speed and lower the clock speed to try to maintain the temperature. So you can see that there's nothing dangerous about leaving the card to do it's thing, this isn't 'too hot'. Do some research on GPU Boost 2.0 and you'll see what I'm on about.

A custom fan curve in msi afterburner is the way to do what you want.

^^This.
Just install After Burner and you should have full control of your GPU fan.

who want silent acustic don t buy this reference card, buy custom card like G1,MSI or watercoled. This reference card must be properly cooled with more rpm under load.It just my opinion and I am right im sure.Nvidia policy is not fair!!!I think is a conspiracy to run so hot to damage the card and forced to buy new series....

I wouldn't have messed with the thermal material ether. Sometimes it can void the warranty

83°C for a reference blower cooler is nothing unusual. R9 290X had a thermal limit of 95°C iirc. Some are still grinding even today no problem.

the card is not functioning at the correct clockspeed even.Under load with boost goes to 1215mhz,and official site and gpu-z show 1076 MHz with boost.Maybe that's why become so hot under load? How can I decrease to have maximum 1076 with boost???Is there any way?

It is designed to do this, called GPU Boost 2.0 as I said earlier. It'll self-overclock beyond it's stated boost clocks. This is 100% normal.

yes but im wonder 1215 MHz for a reference card is not way too much? From 1076 boost to 1215 for a reference card is too much I think, thats way becoming so hot?I don t want overclock at this reference card,i want to be cooled. Why goes so much when 1076 is maximum admitted for this card?
I HATE NVIDIA!!!!!

1076 isn't the 'maximum admitted for this card'... 1076mhz is the minimum boost nvidia can advertise to the customer. In good conditions it will exceed that by a large margin, just as you're seeing. Seriously, absolutely nothing is wrong with your graphics card.

You have the answer to making it run cooler, afterburner - custom fan curve - done. If you don't want to do that then just enjoy the card as it is. Those are your options.

You need to look at actual reported clocks on teh graphs in the Sensors tab and not the numbers on first tab which are just base clocks.

When ever I game I always set my Fans to 100% and I could care a less about the noise!! I would rather have below normal temps while gaming than the opposite! I use ROG Gaming Center to set my fan speed. I have always since the day I began gaming set my cards fan to 100% and I have never ever had a fan failure as a result of running them at 100%!!! Now having said that maybe it is time to re-paste the GPU? I have also had more than a few cards that needed re-pasting and worked awesome as a result of re-pasting! Good luck and welcome to TPU!!!

I would just let my card do its job, never had an issue with temperarures, only time anyone should worry is if they get lockups or bsods.
@hunter_- you best to listen to what @infrared has to say, otherwise you will start to not receive help from the users here. They have told you the card is doing its job, if you are so worried, send the card back or use afterburner to get custom fan curves set.
