Hi guys,

my Asus gtx 670 top started to bent down \ twisted "I don't know what to call it" and I'm afraid that it will break on me some day, I want to know how to support the card's weight and make it even in one level?

My MoBo is Asus P8Z77-V and Thermal take Chaser MK-I case

My Regards

If you're willing to spend $14.99 then I suggest this : PowerColor PowerJACK.

If not, just cut some thin PVC pipes, fill it with unused paper or something else, seal both end with tape, and use it as your VGA support beam :D

What bent? The card or the motherboard slot? Either way, don't you have it screwed to your case where the monitor hook-ups are? Like this-

That's strange. You sure you don't have the lock at the end of the pci-e slot broken?

I've owned a couple of heavy cards myself (have a Zotac 670 currently) but never seen anything like it.

Edit: is your motherboard properly fixed to the case chassis?

That really shouldnt happen on a card like that, it isnt that heavy. On dual gpu cards id expect it, but not a dual slot 670!

EDIT: I just thought, strange and ridiculous idea, but are the case slots slightly higher than the PCIE slots on the motherboard, that whole thing is diagonal

well the easiest fix would be to get some monifilament fishing line and support the card with it by tieing to one of the heatpipes then to the top of your case

It appears to me that the end where your card is connected to the case seems to be warping itself the bottom segment appears to be fine but the top appears to be bending up as if it is improperly screwed in or breaking.

The card itself as a whole appears to be mounted on a distinctly diagonal tilt as well.

:twitch:

Sorry for the terrible paint skills but my touchpad sucks >.> Hopefully i highlights exactly what I am referring to though.

This same thing happens to my Asus GTX 570 (Dual slot)...even when the power cables are not plugged in. I honestly believe the card is just that heavy. I've had other cards and none of them have ever done it, only the big dual slot cards. I fixed mine by running a zip-tie around one of the heatpipes and attached to my drive bay.

I didn't understand on what you are referring to by "yes it is".

Do you mean that the lock at the end of the pci-e slot is broken or do you mean that your motherboard is properly fixed?

my GTX680 is doing the same thing now that I have a waterblock on it now. Was thinking about doing the PVC pipe idea for now.

your skills are very good actually :) you managed to highlight \ show the problem exactly.

This same thing happens to my Asus GTX 570 (Dual slot)...even when the power cables are not plugged in. I honestly believe the card is just that heavy. you r right, it's not the power cables fault as I've checked them and found out that they are loose and not tight as they appears in the picture,

what happened with your Asus GTX 570? did you managed to solve the problem? or did you just left it as it is?

It's still running just fine right now. I actually took the zip-tie off a few months ago and it sags just like yours, however I've read on several forums of people running their's like that for years without issue. I've actually ran a dual slot 3870x2 for over 3 years like that with no issues...it was actually sagging more than yours. Now, this doesn't mean that it can't potentially break something. I plan on fixing mine again with a zip-tie.

can you show me how exactly? I know how to do it but... you know, it would be better to see an actual picture showing how it's done :).

2 things :

1) your motherboard is not aligned correctly
3) your case has an alignment problem which results in badly constructed, thermaltake:shadedshu

Try to loosen (even those on the GPU bracket ) but do not remove all the motherboard screws and move it to the top and bottom see if the graphics card aligns itself.

Pvc pipe idea sounds like the best quick/cheap solution. Just cut it to length and stick it in. Or toilet paper/paper towel tube like was mentioned might be more readily available; lol, ghetto mods ftw

@okidna, why would it need to be stuffed with paper?

That problem is a combination of a few things.

The Header plate for the card Probably only has 1 screw in the top of it.

The Backplate and the header plate are not screwed together.

The Custom HSF removes the stock shrouding that sits on the face of the card. This stock shrouding actually adds a lot of strength to the card.

The effects are as shown. All the weight of the card is sitting on one screw on the header plate. And the header plate itself is not robust enough to take that weight. The backplate not been connected to that header plate is allowing this weak joint to move to a more desirable angle so pressure is on the screw rather than been on the bend of the header plate.

If it were me i would consider making a few modifications to the backplate.

Firstly a triangle of metal. With a 90degree bend in it that can run the length of the back of the card. And screw into the case above the card. Then you drill that triangle to match the existing backplate holes, and mount it on top of the back plate.

i hope you can understand this image :D It's not the best but it might give you an idea.
