How to use a Nvidia card as Physx w/ATi

Hey guys, so I decided to give this a try as I have a spare 9800GT lying around. Just installed the 10.3 drivers for my 5850. Shut down the PC, installed my 9800GT in the second PCI-E slot. Turn the computer on and boot into safe mode, and all this time my 9800GT's fan is spinning at max, like it does before my PC posts. Once I get into safe mode (fan on my 9800GT still at max) I begin to install the nvidia drivers, but it says it cannot find any compatible hardware. Any ideas on what the problem could be? Did I miss something obvious :laugh:

my 8800GT fan did that spin max thing too, but you don't install the Nvidia Driver in safe mode you just do it when your windows is started up normally, after that reboot in to safe mode and apply the patch ^^

i did this.

1. Downloaded ATi Catalyst 10.3 and Nvidia Driver 197.13 + PhysX_10.02.22_9.10.0222_SystemSoftware

2. Installed ATi Catalyst 10.3 Nvidia Driver 1097.13 + PhysX_10.02.22_9.10.0222_SystemSoftware

3. Rebooted in to safe mode and apply PhysX-mod-1.02 (IF you have Vista or Win7 run it as Administrator if you haven't turned that off)

4. After booted into Windows 7 again i installed Hybrid_PhysX_197.13_ED___LP_Fix_V1.02

and it have works great ^^

Remeber guys! if you have a 5xxx series card, this patch STILL WORKS with the 10.4 drivers as long as you use 196.21 nvidia drivers.

i install my nvidia driver in safe mode but this may not work for everyone. the thing is, dont restart after installing the nvidia driver. Use the patch BEFORE restarting

I guess if I can get as far as installing the nvidia driver I will keep that in mind

Thing is though my 9800GT did not show up in my device manager, so maybe it's a problem with my mobo or my card?

Well I got home, tried installing the drivers regularly and I'm stilling getting the same error. My 9800GT isn't even being detected according to Device Manager. So just to confirm, I have my 5850 in my primary PCI-E slot, installed the drivers for that, shutdown PC, install 9800GT in second PCI-E slot, boot the PC while still using the 5850 as the primary display adapter (i.e. 5850 connected to monitor) and install the nvidia drivers. This is the right process, correct?

Hmmm, not sure what I'm doing wrong then, my PC simply won't detect my card I guess.

Ok, so this is what I've tried so far. I switched the 5850 and 9800GT around so that the 5850 is in the 2nd PCI-E slot. My PC will boot if I connect my monitor to my 5850, but not if it's connected to my 9800GT. Only time my 9800GT is recognized is when it is in the primary PCI-E slot and my 5850 is not installed. I'm not really sure what's preventing my 9800GT from being detected when my 5850 is installed.

I'm having the exact same error!
The system manager doesn't even recognize my 8800GTS G92 unless it's the only card connected to the motherboard, WTF?

check your BIOS to see if it's enabled.

isn't the 5970 a beast card by itself? why crossfire it with a 5850?
you could swap the 5850 with the 8800 in your other pc... i'm just sayin'

Nope I disabled it in the BIOS. It's very puzzling why my 9800GT doesn't get detected.

I have 2 5850's and a Gigabyte 220 GT running Physx. It works but I have really only tried it on Fluidmark and the Batman AA benchmark. I used the setup guide in these forums to get it working.

I do notice something weird though it seems that in Battlefield Bad Company 2 the Nvidia card wants to be the renderer when the game first loads, I sometimes get 8-10 fps but then the ATI cards kick in and I get the usual 60+FPS. Is there any way to force the ATI cards to always be the default renderer?

Onboard VGA is disabled.
Maybe if I turn it on?

If I install the 8800GTS in the secondary slot without the HD5870 in there, it gets recognized.
I went to safe mode, installed the nVidia drivers and ran the mod.
But for some reason, installing the HD5870 in the first slot will automatically turn the 8800GTS off.

It's a bios thing. The 8800GTS won' even make it to the windows hardware detection.

Is the Nvidia card showing up under device manager? I believe mine was at first but it was disabled. Once I reenabled it I was able to install the drivers and do the mod thing. I had to do the mod thing twice for the Physx part to become enabled though.

It doesn't show up in device manager. That's the root of all the problems.

It looks like the card won't appear to the bios if there's no monitor connected to it at startup.

I'm going to try and update the motherboard bios. I'm also having some problems with my new SSD so it might solve the other things.

I'm going to try and update the motherboard bios. I'm also having some problems with my new SSD so it might solve the other things.

i'm not sure the lack of a monitor would cause the card to not be detected.
when i first set up my physx card, all the software installed fine but physx wouldn't enable without at least a dummy dongle attached. the nvidia card has to have the desktop extended to it to enable physx, but not to be detected. while that may be different with the new hack, i still have my desktop extended to the 250.

it sounds to me like it may be a problem relating to chipsets with ati display integrated, or a pci-e scaling issue on m-atx.

I've tried it with the integrated VGA on and still nothing. At least ur card gets recognized no matter what slot it's in, if I don't have my 9800GT in the primary PCI-E slot I can't get it to boot.

Perhaps if we flash the firmware with one it's known to work?
