How to use a Nvidia card as Physx w/ATi

i mean on motherboards that didn't support two full 16x port's. like on mine 16x/4x

Well yes, if your mother board has limitations then i would say so but if if your board supports full x16/x16 then it should not change bandwidth by having the two different cards.

Also updated main post for the new patch!

Depends on the boards chipset. Say if you use a 790GX board with just a graphics card in PCI-E x16 slot 1 then it runs the full x16. Now if you threw in a nvidia card for physx in PCI-E x16 slot 2 then both will get cut down to x8. The performance drop from x16 to x8 is very minimal and will not effect your gameplaying enough to worry about it.

but in my case ?? 16/4
i have already tested a physx card on the 4x port but only with physx games, it was a friend"s card and the result was amazing, i didn"t tested the impact on non-physx game.

With the 5870 in the x16 slot on the PhysX card in the x4 slot there should be no problems.

That x4 slot will work just fine for physx. With the nvidia card only being used just for the physx the x4 can provide enough bandwidth.

Mine is an elaboration of what Erocker stated above :)

Note: Do not use the newest mod for the 19x drivers...it doesn't work. Also I tried out the beta 258 drivers found here and smooth as butter.

Just picked up a PNY 9600GT for cheap. I'll post up some numbers after I get a chance to install and run some benches. :D

Well my Vantage score went from 14428 to 17172! I don't think I have any Physx games.

how much gain will i get with the physx card in a 1x slot?

need an opinion... in our local bargain hunter there is a kid who has a EVGA GTX 260 Superclocked Edition asking $80.00, I prresume this would make a great physx card correct? Would it be a good thing for me to buy just to play around with physx?

That would be more than enough for PhysX but that is a AWESOME PRICE!! Right now I'm using a 8800GS and honestly can't til much of a difference between it and the 260(192sp) I had installed before it..besides my Vantage score which was much higher on the 260 obviously.

I think you should have a particular purpose in mind before buying a PhysX card. Are there any applications/games you have that require PhysX that you think you need the card for? For PhysX you would be better off buynig a cheaper GT240 or GT220.

you know.. I have batman and that about it i think lol , but Iam more interested in buying it just to test it out like everyone else. Also to bench and see the difference, I thought of a card like a 8800gt etc. but they are very close to what i can get this 260 for, I guess i could always sell the 260 later on for more than$80.00

$80 is a steal. you probably couldn't get a 250 for that.
grab it and if you're disappointed, sell it. you could probably get $100 for it here on tpu.

heh, i'm selling a 9800GT 1GB and an 8800GTX for $50 Au each tomorrow... you guys'd love me lol.

can i use an nvidia card for physX.???? my motherboard is crosshair 4 formula, it doesn't support an nvidia card....

just because ur motherboard got a AMD 890FX chipset doesn't mean you can't use one Nvidia Card on it

but it's true that it doesn't support Nvidia SLI but still running a single Nvidia is possible, so you should be able to have a Nvidia card for Cuda/PhysX :nutkick:

i got a Gigabyte GA-EP45-UD3P with a Intel P45 just because i got a Intel Chipset doesn't mean i can't use one Nvidia Card instead of 2 ATI/AMD Cards.

i am currenty using a Sapphire Radeon HD5770 Vapor-X 1GB as main stream card and a Albatron GeForce 8800GT-512X for Cuda/PhysX and h264/x264 decoding with CoreAVC for Media Player Classic.

maxium should be a GTX260 or something like that depends on your resolution and what games you wanna play, but still i think a 9500GT/GT220/GT240 should be more than enough, because you got your 5870 to do all the so called "hard work" in the games and only need the Nvidia GPU to do your PhysX.

Batman: Arkham Asylum
Cryostasis
Darkest of Days
Medal of Honor: Airborne
Metro 2033
Mirror's Edge
Unreal Tournament 3

and i know that Mafia 2 have PhysX aswell but check http://physxinfo.com/ there is a game list ^^;

and Transformers :P

Should I get an EVGA b-stock 8800GTS 640MB for PhysX? They're only $49 shipped straight from EVGA.
