I've got a dv7-1285dx. The build is very similar to this laptop, just a different coloration/design, and using a 16:10 aspect ratio. Same keyboard, media buttons, ports, etc...

Mine only has a C2D/Geforce 9600M GT/6GB RAM, so I can only speak for the build & feature similarities. I can say that the build quality is really pretty great for a consumer-grade notebook. It feels allot more solid than some other consumer notebooks do, and the keyboard is decent + easy to adjust to. If his is like mine, there's also a second HDD bay and multiple mini-PCIe slots for upgrades. Ports wise, you get rarities like ExpressCard/54, 1394, modem, and eSATA; really great. The remote also fits into the ExpressCard slot when not in use. Use compressed air on the fan from time to time, but that's the same with any notebook.

All in all, I'm pleased with mine.
