HP pc beeping 6 times then boots normally

Hello

Recently I’ve been getting 6 beeps on startup while my 650ti is plugged into my computer. I was trying to access my bios and got no video output with my gpu as hdmi output (i always get 6beeps when trying to get into bios AND on computer startup). I then fully removed my 650ti out of the computer and plugged my monitor into the motherboards inbuilt DVI slot(runs of integrated graphics then)I could then access the bios and had no beeping while running off of integrated graphics of my CPU. Once I plug back my GPU in, it starts beeping on startup no matter what I do(but it then somehow boots windows fine after the beeps). How the heck do I get the beeps to stop when my gpu is plugged in, and is there any way to access the bios through my GPU output, because i don’t want to remove my gpu every time I want to change bios settings

thanks for the help!

Hello
For what i know 6 beeps on a HP system can be a video issue or a faulty important component on your mobo, depends on bios model, but i would assume that yours is related to video issues.
So, if i understand correctly, with the 650ti plugged it boot on windows and works fine but can't go to bios and have POST errors, without the 650ti it works perfectly, right?

I would do these steps:
  • Reset the bios, then disable integrated graphics.
  • If a bios reset doesn't work, give some diagnose on gpu, stress the card on FurMark for like 5~10min and do 1 or 2 runs on GpuMemTest (maybe set the fans at 100% with afterburner for this :D). You can use Kombustor 3 too, it have a great chip/memory stress test. Also see on GPU-Z if everything is fine and correctly showing.
  • Here i would suggest to flash a fresh bios, but i couldn't find anything on your mobo. But if you can, try another gpu and cpu. Or take it to a repair store, they must give it a good diagnose.

Hey thanks for the reply, really means alot to me

I’ve tried all the things you’ve suggested, but to no avail. I just keep on hearing 6 beeps on startup and no access to bios through the gpu output (blank screen). I’ve been reading up, and some people say to turn off secure boot and to turn on legacy boot in bios (i’d have to disconnect gpu and connect motherboard output to my display). Would that be a viable solution? Don’t want to brick my computer.

thanks a bunch

If your ram is in dual channel you can try to pop out one stick and see if it solves the problem. Then you try with the other one

I’m currently only using 1 stick of ddr3 8gb ram, no dual channel. Reseating the ram doesn’t so anything

Might be a CPU fan RPM detection issue.

Some prebuilts doesn't support PCIe cards which draws over 30W, but I checked HP's specs from that board ( https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c03885123 ) and at least there's no such thing mentioned.

You did try to update/reflash the bios?

It’s fine, yes

Can I somehow check that? Not sure what that is
I dunno, but the AMI BIOS of the Asus P5QL Pro motherboard that I had, even with the fan in the proper CPU fan RPM range, on power up or reboot, would randomly bleep several times with a CPU fan error, making me hit F1 to continue. (or whatever key)

if everything runs fine w/o the card, then try the card in another rig.

you just might be chasing geese until you do. i mean, the first word in your post is "recently" (after hello: btw, HI!)so it was working before???? my spidey sense is telling me the 650ti . . .

Will do, I was planning to build another pc soon, so that would be the perfect time to test it. And yes, it never beeped before I accessed the bios and therefore removed my 650ti, I had to access the bios to change boot priority as I was migrating for an hdd to ssd.
