Humble request for BIOS: recent Sapphire HD 4870 1GB

Feel free to laugh at me, but please also help me if you can... :)

I purchased a 1GB Sapphire Radeon HD 4870 from Newegg several days ago. SKU 11133-19-1GL, PN 288-1E131-000SA. I'm very new to fiddling with the BIOS, and in my enthusiasm I flashed it with something that I was very confident would work without backing up the BIOS. Of course, it didn't work, and I'm left with a card that doesn't work very well and no backup BIOS with which to restore it. I've been scouring the web to find a BIOS, and have had no luck. I did find one with nominally the same SKU and Part Number, but it seems not to be quite right; I've attached it for reference.

If anybody out there has recently purchased one of these cards, and has a BIOS that is *different* from the one attached here, I'd be incredibly grateful if you could post it!

Thanks so much! :)

Thanks - I looked there, but the most recent BIOS is from March. I need something a lot more recent, I imagine...

All you need is a BIOS for the exact brand/SKU of your card. It doesn't matter what date it is from.

Can you possibly link to the Newegg page of your model? I can't seem to find that model with the part numbers you provided.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102849 is what I bought.

More info, since it seems like it might be relevant: The BIOS that I linked in the first post is from the same SKU. I'm actually trying to flash EFI firmware support into the ROM to run the card on a Mac (which is why it was very inconvenient to back up the BIOS in the first place). Other folks have had good luck with what is nominally the same SKU, but (according to the folks who have actually figured out how to do this) even minor revisions, with the same SKU, can render this operation impossible. They've suggested that the most likely culprit is a new revision, with a similar but not identical BIOS. So, I'm here hoping that someone has a card with a BIOS newer than the one I linked in the first post (from July 30) and that this BIOS will save he day for me...

Thanks so much to both of you for offering your help - I really appreciate it!

Thank you, phsinc1, but that BIOS is from October 2008. This card is much newer than that. Thank you, though!

Well one, you card does not work at all, so a BIOS that brings it back to life is a step forward.
Two, BIOS and drivers are two different things. BIOS for cards are rarely, if ever updated. Just because your card was bought recently does not mean it didn't have 1 to 2 year old BIOS on it.

TheLaughingMan, I've been able to get it *sort of* working using a BIOS from July 30, 2009 (the one linked in my first post). I'm just not able to get the EFI firmware working properly, and so the suspicion is that they have recently changed something in the ROM in some very minor way. From what I understand, they recently switched memory supplier for the 4890, resulting in a slightly updated ROM, and they may well have done this with the 4870 at the same time.

MetalRacer, thanks for the link! I looked through it and everything there is from before July 30, so I don't think it will help me, sadly, but I was unaware of that site - it seems like a generally good resource.

Bo_Fox, the July 30, 2009 BIOS isn't doing it for me. If you've got one more recent (byte-pairs 81-88 of the BIOS give its date) I'd be immensely grateful!

Thanks again to everyone who has chimed in here. :)

Sorry, man, mine is much older than that. Good luck, though.

Thanks, Zion. I checked, though, and still too old. :(
If you look at the ROM in a text editor, somewhere in the first few lines will be a date. I'm looking for one with a date newer than 07/30/09.

It is a ROM file. Change the suffix to .rom or .bin, if you'd like, and use with the flashing tool of your choice (appropriate for your platform, your resources, and your comfort). :)

Incidentally, this ROM is from 3/12/2009; much older than what I'm looking for... :(
