The Hybrid PhysX Mod enables hardware PhysX support for Nvidia GPU, when non-Nvidia GPU is used as a primary display device. This version brings support for Nvidia ForceWare 285 family of drivers and Nvidia PhysX System Software 9.11.0621.

good info, but cant you get away with like an 8600 as an PPU?

I don't think 8600 supports GPU PhysX.

It does as it meets the requirements of having 32 shader units and 256MB VRAM. (and I had an 8600GT and ran fluid physx demo just fine in hardware)

tho i will admit it runs slow when doing normal graphics as well so i'd only use it as a stand alone PPU as far as physx goes.

(of course this was in 2009, they may have changed the requirements again.)

Which graphics cards can accelerate NVIDIA PhysX?

All GeForce 8 series graphics cards and above with at least 256MB of local onboard graphics memory and at least 32 cores will be able to accelerate NVIDIA PhysX. If you intend to use an NVIDIA supported graphics card as a dedicated Physx card, the other graphics cards in the system must also use an NVIDIA GPU.

Yet they don't actually list an 8600GT as a supported GPU, but it does meet the requirement. I may have to dig out my old one, bake it (its got solder issues), find a cooling system for it, and test it lol.

And yea... the GT240 should pwn physx (based on nVidia's requirement) as it has 96 cores.

Apparently, PhysX on 8600GT only works with 196.34 GPU drivers + PhysX SS drivers 9.10.0222, nothing newer.

It really depends on the person. If you notice it, it does add a little bit extra. To me, my 40~50$ purchase for the card was totally worth it because it could be used as a backup card too. Unfortunately I didn't use the card much at all, maybe a week (enough time to finish Batman and Mirror's Edge), but I think PhysX can still be fun to have. I have to admit that not that many games have much of a difference with PhysX.

I think that if you have an upgrade itch and want to tame it a bit, a PhysX card can be the answer

Also note you need to have the space on your mobo

8600 "works" but it's damn slow, even to slow for mirrors edge phsyx.

to run physx smoothly a nv cards with min. 128 shader units is needed

i tested this mod today with my old 88gts 320mb + hd6850 and it works quite fine

i released that some options in CCC break this mod if that happens just reapply it
i turned Catalyst AI Surface Format Optimization and geometry instancing off seams to work fine now
