IF you do decide 6870, I went from a 4850 (sometimes Crossfired 4850s) to a 6870 and have been very happy with the cards performance.

So, go with the slowest because it's new tech? Sometimes, that logic has its pitfalls.

I wouldn't trade my 2600k for a 3750k, just because it's newer tech. Heck, I wouldn't even trade it for a 3770k.

OP, if you want the fastest card out of the box, go with the HD 6870.

It is still a very relevant card, and good for 1080p if that's your resolution.

It's not faster? I posted a huge graph and everything.

Edit:

Ahh I see you have a 6870. Got it. No it wouldn't make sense for you, but with the way drivers are right now the nvidia card will likely only get better and the AMD card wont seeing how the last set of drivers did zilch for them...The 650Ti would be a better buy right now choosing between the two.

I am confused. The 6870 was 10% faster. If you are talking about the AMP, you probably don't want to argue overclocking if you are on NVidias side. Youll lose.

The 650 is more efficient though.

I think you got something mixed up.

TRWOV told the OP to go with the GTX 650Ti because it's newer. And I said that sometimes we shouldn't buy something just because it is new. In this case, the vanilla GTX650Ti is 10% slower than the HD 6870.

I don't know what you are trying to say, really.

Per watt both the regular GTX 650Ti and the AMP! destroy the 6870.

Roughly half the power consumption

If you want to compete on the same level from AMD I wouldn't look at anything below the 7850 1GB which can easily be found for the same price.

Yes and there is next to zero driver optimizations right now for the 6xx series I would buy the card and wait for the optimizations the 6850 is at about the end of its lively hood, the 650 Ti is just getting started. Not to mention it is roughly the same performance out of a card no longer than the slot its in.

Don't forget the GTX650Ti only has a 128bit memory bus and only 16 ROPs vs 32 ROPs and 256bit bus on the HD 6870-

Once you increase the resolution and AA, I'm sure the HD 6870 will be the better card.

I say 6870, you can get a used one on the cheap(there was one on here for 85$!). Most can overclock pretty decently too, and even on stock mine can play bf3 on ultra at 60fps at 1600x900

that is true, just looked. The differences are fairly slim though.

It depends on if you are worried about efficiency. If you are, go with the 650.

If you want power and overclocking, 6870 hands down.

Actually it starts to looses at higher resolution. Doesn't matter the card (AMP! or stock)

Yup this is what happens when I change shifts three times in a couple of weeks.

I vote hunt for a 7850 1GB will beat both cards hands down for roughly the same price.

I think i will go for 6870 because it have more calculating power compare to 650ti . 2 teraflops compare to my 1 teraflops on 4850 its twice :)
Soon or laters the driver support will drop like 4000 series ( 1 driver for 3 months) but i will be able to play all new games in next 1.5-2 years.
On the other hand 650Ti is a brand new model and it will get good driver updates from nvidia.

If you can get both for the same price i would definetly say the 650ti,true it is slightly slower but it is extreamly power efficent and you spend less money on it in the long run,as for the performane you will most likely wont be able to tell the differance between the two in every day gaming.

650ti, newer tech and more efficient

No.

Newer tech only works nvidia to nvidia, Intel to Intel, not ati to nvidia or amd to intel.

AMD FX is also "newer" tech, yet it can not even beat the older Phenom II or Intel Nehalem. These "newer tech" comments are some of the dumbest o have found in places.

HD6870 is faster also btw, 10 to 15 % .The GTX650 Ti is just a GTX560 or be it a GTX460 analogue, nothing more. GTX650 Ti is also a crippled card in memory bandwidth - HD6870 has so much more of it... I strongy recommend a faster and better card - HD6870. At least hd6870 is "polished" in all aspects. GTX650 Ti is just stupid - lost of shaders, but crippled pixel fillrate and memory bandwidth - it's a lame card.

as for the performane you will most likely wont be able to tell the differance between the two in every day gaming.
Wrong again.

You will see a difference just because of how lame the GTX650 Ti will perform in high resolution applications with lots of AA - in such situations the HD6870 should trash it to pieces.

Soon or laters the driver support will drop like 4000 series ( 1 driver for 3 months) but i will be able to play all new games in next 1.5-2 years.

considering the HD4K are over 4 years old now, there isn't much more juice to squeeze from drivers. HD 6K should at least get another year or 2 of driver updates :D

My bro went from a 4850 to a 6870 and he is very happy, personally id go with the 6870 its just that little bit more powerful. GTX650 Ti is a nice card and im getting one (for my mini PC), but i still think the 6870 is in your case the better option.

I would say: save for 660ti

The GTX 660Ti is a awesome card, but if your going to go that far id personally go for the 7870, alot cheaper for basically the same performance :ohwell:
