Ram issue isn't totally solved yet ..... try the other 3 sticks along with it you current ones next.

Well its either your PSU or your 580...Could you have some one else test the 580 in their rig?

I am and have been using the stock fan. I've taken half of the RAM out (meaning 12GB still installed) and it still only shows 8GB. I removed an old wifi card I wasn't using and my PC is still rebooting when the in-game graphics load. Also it seems that without a RAM chip in the 4th slot (some have referred to it as b2) my computer doesn't boot.

I don't know if I have seen yet but what CPU Cooler are you using?

I would do that before replacing either of them ( PSU or GPU).

Make sure your friend from work has a decent power supply in the computer he's going to be testing it with. If you put that 580 in a dell with a 200W power supply it could either just plain not work (if the limiting circuitry in the PSU works right)

or it could smoke the card or the PSU or the whole computer.

Tested the video card in my coworker's PC and it worked just fine with his Crossfire HX1050. Thanks to everyone that provided advice.

Keep a couple things in mind with a PSU. The efficiency of the PSU isn't good the wattage will not accurately represent the power output of the supply. For what you're running, I'm surprised it's not at bare minimum 850-watt, and rated 80+ silver. Also if your PSU has more than 1 12v rail, you may want to divvy up the load between them. You might want to consider a new PSU. I've seen bad PSUs destroy towers, don't let that happen to you if your PSU really is shutting down your system. By the way, how do your voltages on the +12v, +5v, and +3.3v look?

Efficiency doesn't work that way. If the PSU is rated at 700w, it should provide 700w (ignoring for the moment all the companies that over-rate their PSUs). If the PSU has low efficiency, it will simply draw more power from the wall (say, 1000w drawn from the AC outlet) in order to provide those 700w than a higher efficiency PSU would.

In simple terms, low efficiency PSUs will waste a lot of energy as heat, but will still put out their rated wattage. Assuming, of course, that the PSU is rated truthfully.
