I have decided on a second 4870 x2.

One problem though... I got to water cool that too. I'm not sure if my quad radiator will be ok with dual 4870 x2's and Q9550 at 4GHz.

Does it also depend on what fans are on the radiator too? I am thinking about buying 4 blue LED fans by AC Ryan that push 77cfm. My current fans push 63cfm.

Stupid question but.... What are you gonna use an additional X2 for? You wont even see any benefit from it in any games, you current spec is fast enough as it is.

Unless you do a serious lot of folding...

Since Steam games are mainly heavy on the CPU more then the GPU, probably no better.

I saw huge gains in L4D when I went crossfire. Went from 120fps average to 160-180.

Yea same here with my 4830's

Honestly man. I would just get a 4870 and do Tri-Fire. Quad-Fire doesn't scale as well as 3.

I going to have to agree with this...Trifire scales lot better than quadfire...only benifit you will see with dual 4870X2's would be in benching...some reviews show that performance actually drops when you have 4gpus....depends on the game though.

That is correct, jbunch. I've also seen benchmarks of Crysis and I think with crossfire, it lost 2FPS compared to a single 4870 x2.

Then why was there an eagle rig sold with 4870x2 crossfire named the fastest system on earth before gtx295 came out? They say it was able to do 60fps in crysis very high, now imagine how well the other games will do with better crossfire scaling.

Yup.. I think it's a great game it just doesn't run very well at all. I used to play it on my 3850 and it ran ok on my old 1024x768 monitor but at 1920x1080 it's just not optimized enough.

What cpu were you using at the time? That might have been holding you back too.

Thats actually true now that I think about it, when you look around frames drop significally and jump back up to normal. Call of Duty 4 Modern Warfare looks way more attractive than cryengine and you would only need a mid range card to run it on 60fps constant

Getting another 4870x2 just means future proof for the next say 5 years? lmfao, don't think you would ever need to upgrade with crossfire 4870x2. I say go for it if you got the cash to spare, I know I would. And optimizations and drivers will only be getting better, hell their good now.
