I'm trying to run ATIFLASH, and it's erroring out.

I'm using:
atiflash -p 0 my4770.bin

It says:
Old SSID: 0318
New SSID: 1250
SSID mismatched
ERROR 0FL01 : press '1' to continue

---------------------------------------
Does that mean it thinks my bios backup is bad?

:banghead:

I think you need the "-f" in there for a FORCED flash.

Look here:

http://www.techpowerup.com/articles//overclocking/vidcard/34/8

Also make sure the adapter ID is correct - the "0" (zero) you have in your entry. It should be correct at 0.

For the hell of it, I just tried reflashing the ASUS bios.
You know, the one that got me into this mess.

It seems to have completed -- the SSID's matched.
"Restart System To Complete VBIOS Update."

I'm going to restart. If this fails, I'll use the "-f".
:fingerscrossed:

Of course it matched. However if its still corrupt you are going to go in circles. Anyway post back with results.

Now your talking. See it matched before because you had a successful flash before. However the bios you flashed was ether corrupt or not compatible. So basically you traded one bad bios for another. They were identical so they "matched". That didn't mean they would work ;)

Understand?

whoops i forgot to add the -f command, since i also forgot that you are gonna have to use another manufacture's BIOS, So keep trying.

PS-
Im glad that you can at least be able to see the bios and able to run ATIflash, which means theres still hope, because sometimes you wont even see the boot up screen since the card is too messed up.

OK. This has turned into a comedy.

Short story: Yay! It seems fixed! ( At least the short boot test I did on the machine.)

Long story: I just fucked up an important machine at my work. LOL. Well, not really LOL, but in 6 months we'll all be laughing about it.
Guy at work leaves me the PCI card. I proceed to pull apart my build machine and rip out the PCIE card that's in it. I find I can only put the PCI card in the very bottom slot... and it's rubbing against some of the USB/Front panel headers. Whatever. I mash my 4770 in the PCIE slot, and get as far as my previous posting.
Upon my next reboot to flash to my original BIOS, I bump the box. The machine won't turn on.
WTF?
I verify everything is seated. Nothing.
I don't smell anything.
I proceed to pull out the P/S of this machine, and pull out the P/S out of another machine.
That's a lot of screws, cables, zip-tie cutting, etc.
New P/S exhibits same behaviour on box.
Upon closer inspection, I see some small thing on the mobo that looks like dust and an IC that's sorta lifted. I fuckered up the motherboard.
Goddamnit.

So I pull out yet another machine (that I should have started with) and am able to flash back. So this is where I'm at now.

Now I get to rebuild our build machine on some other piece of hardware.

Seriously, I need to step away from the hardware for a few more months.

Thanks for everyones help.

Here's a slightly off-topic question.

My previous video card had 256MB; out of 4GB of RAM, my bios would show ~3.7GB free.
Now, with my new 512MB card, the bios shows ~3.5, and Windows 7 shows "about 3.25GB useable."

Why is my VRAM eating into my RAM address space?
Is this a motherboard issue?

That's just how it works. 32bit windows can only access 4gb of memory wether it is RAM or GPU RAM. If you had a 1gb card it would show 3gb ram available.

I'm running Windows 7 64Bit.

There's nothing obvious in the BIOS.

No you should just not jump the gun on firmware upgrades or modifications before you do your research

Hey, I'm glad you were able to get back your card - shame it was at the cost of another computer, but hey, shit happens. As you gain experience, you'll screw up this way less, so don't let it put you off in future.

Also, given the post I've quoted, I see it has been answered, but it would have helped to see your system specs. How about putting your machine specs into your profile for all to see? It tends to be very handy when people are trying to help you troubleshoot and it's cool to share with your fellow enthusiasts. Especially so if you've spent time and money building a hot rig that you're proud of. :D
