I need advice on building a budget video editing computer(Black Magic 1080 RAW) . Please Help!

Hello! I already have a brand new Gigabyte Z97X-SLI motherboard and an Antec case that I got for free. I still need everything else. My budget is looking to be around $750 but would consider going a little over if its really worth it . I have a Black Magic Pocket Camera and want a set up that would be able to handle editing RAW footage. I would really appreciate any advice . Thank you !

Thanks for the replies ! Yes , that is the motherboard I have . I was thinking of getting this CPU . It was one of the cpus recommened by a representitive at Newegg. Thoughts?

Two, the guys at NewEgg want you to spend more money. They don't care about you or what you need as long as you spend more money.

Third, you need a 4x8 kit of memory of what other people here know what you're going to use it for because I sure don't.

Is there a difference between using a 2x16 kit of memory vs the 4x8 kit?

listen: just get the most amount of memory you can and the fastest CPU( for quality nothing beats CPU rendering). Even so editing RAW is no picnic.Plan to upgrade storage as soon as possible , since more is always better, always get the most TB you can.

That being sad consider the AMD option witch will give a huge boost in rendering speeds.IF you are doing this as professional speed and quality is everything.If you decide AMD you will have to sell the motherboard

My editing machine was built for around 350 USD iirc and it has 2 xeon x5670s, 72gb ddr3 and a nice super micro x8dth-if mobo. Those xeons are dirt cheap. The things for 24 threads running at 3.3ghz and it kicks the crap out of my 4790k. It's probably 2.5 to 3 times as fast as it. I think you can get a pair of them for maybe like 60 usd on eBay but idr the pricing. Ddr3 ecc is so really cheap

You know something I just thought about. With a firmware update the Black Magic will do ProRes files. Much easier to work with than raw and I can't tell the difference.

Maybe it does, iunno, I have no clue what happens going from two sticks to four sticks. All I know is more sticks.

they are both dual channel but 4 sticks puts more load on the IMC which could potentially limit speeds and or overclocking

e.g is more difficult to get 4 sticks running at 2666 then two
