yo people im new here, ive a core 2 quad q9550 which really runs hot without reason (65c idle, 100c under load) (already got an aftermarket cooler with heatpipes), checked 9999 times and reseated without luck ;( so i wanna to lower the FSB speed from 1333 to 800 mhz, so it runs cooler and match my ddr2 memory speed, i have option in bios called "CPU BSEL: [AUTO, FSB-1333, FSB-1066, FSB-800, FSB-533]", so im a bit confused, in cpuz, theres a rated fsb (which is 1333.2) and bus speed (which is 333.1), what i know is fsb speed = bus speedĂ—4, so when i select 800 in CPU BSEL, does im setting the bus speed to 800,(which means overclocking) or im setting the whole fsb speed to 800 ?

i really dont know, theres no info on it, but its used for core 2 quad heavy overclocking.
Got a picture? If it's used for heavy clocks it should be 65c max.

That uh, no. You need a real cooler like a tower cooler.

but.. im getting the SAME temps with an unbranded cooler (worse than the stock!), should i return it ? im getting 67c under stress test with my old pentium dual core and old cooler, how that small, light aluminum be the same performance as those heat pipes and the copper core, im sure these are wrong temps.

also my friend using a stock cooler with same cpu getting a noice temps! could it be a bad cpu ?

ok... can u pls tell me what that CPU BSEL in bios for ?

I'd look at reviews from that era, and move up from there. As for your bios issues I had one rig from that time and it was on a locked bios.

take the cooler back and spend the money and get a real cooler. Typically brand-less coolers are failed experiments in cash grabbing and screwing the consumer.

That cooler should be up to the task for a CPU of that era.
I still have a very similar cooler from Acer/ Foxconn that was used on Xeon CPU's.

r im setting the whole fsb speed to 800 ?
Hi mate,
The FSB is quad pumped like you say so if you put the FSB @ 800 your bus speed will be 200. Make sense?
So you will be down clocking the CPU. So the Q9550 (I had one) will operate at 8.5 x 200 = 1.7GHz which is pretty slow.
I would look for a CPU voltage option if possible and select a lower operating voltage. You will need to test for stability etc before proceeding to a lower level. That will be your best way of reducing temps without hindering performance.
But as others have said (without answering your question...) Your CPU should not be getting that Hot with that cooler.
Good luck.
