I need some sample computer setups.

Greetings,

Me and my team have the task of a project presentation in order to graduate and we need some samples professional configurations of computer sets, precisely, for work - renderings, video editing and etc. We would also use two or three server sets. The problem is – I'm not familiar with that knowledge. I have no idea what GPU (NV Tesla, NV Quadro or AMD FirePro), however the CPU is obvious (Intel Core i7, eventually i5 and Xeon).

Thanks in advance, and by the way, everyone who will help us will be included in the credits/bibliography of the project by the address of this forum.

Kindest regards, kubus765

P.S. If this is in the wrong section, please move it to the correct section if you don't mind. :)

are you sure you are not supposed to make those configurations yourself?

also we need to be clear on the budget, and if possible specific applications.

That's a very broad question. Could you be a little more specific on what the rig is going to be intended for? The hardware required for CAD and 3d modeling is very different than say a web developer or a systems programmer who works with microcontrollers. So some clarification on exactly what you're looking for would be helpful. Also the actual goal might be helpful too, I feel this is one end to something else if you're doing a presentation.

Budget is irrelevant, so the setups should be best available, it's for a school project only.

That tells us nothing. I think my question is still valid.

How difficult would it be to look at the spec of oem solutions eg. lenovo, Dell
or maybe check the recommended spec of the software...

my thoughts exactly, back in my day we didnt have google or forums for that matter to do/help with schoolwork. Back then you did it in a place called a library, on your own.......

I'm willing to help, but you really need to be (much) more specific, OP.

Generic workstation configurations can be found all over the net - just head to Dell, HP, Fujitsu, Lenovo, etc. websites, select products -> workstations, copy/paste and you're golden!

Sarcasm aside, without knowing the context more precisely, meaning exactly what you'd be "pretend-rendering", what the nature of the workload is, how many machines you wish to use, which OS and what apps you're planning on using, and so on, no one here can give you any meaningful help nor insight.

In order to get some answers, you need to ask the right questions. You can't just have someone on the forum write up a 5k word essay covering the basics of the majority of conceivable workstation/render farm scenarios, just because you put a smiley and a thank you in the opening post...

He could just start there and sort by price since thats what it sounds like he wants. Than its really quite difficult to match sockets.

alas the difficulties are untouched

ASUS KGPE-D16 SSI EEB Server Motherboard - Newegg....
AMD Opteron 6380 Abu Dhabi 2.5GHz 16 MB L2 Cache 1...
Wintec Server Series Server Memory Model 3RSH13339...

Thanks man, you are the only one that helped me out here.

Hi Kubus, welcome to TPU

Most the time, the people here are very helpful in answering questions, except when it comes to doing school/college assignments. As you can see by the responses in this thread, most people will be like "I'm not doing your school work for you. Do it yourself". I've gotten the same responses when I've asked for advice on my college assignments(currently taking online classes to get my BA in network administration). So please, don't let this put a sour taste in your mouth when it comes to the TPU community. In any other situation, these same people will bend over backwards to help.

This, this, this, and this. We will help you but we're not going to do it for you. Ask questions related to what you're trying to accomplish but do some preliminary research first and don't try to have us do the assignment for you. So instead of saying "What's the best hardware," something more like "I've found x and y, I think x is better for these reasons and am I right for thinking that?" You learn nothing if people do the work for you. If you ask and made a mistake, hopefully someone knowledgeable will chime in.

I currently work in education and I feel pretty strongly about it and this. You need to ask the right questions.
