You have 1000s of options, but I don't know what's available in Nigeria. The good news is, network cards must comply with industry standards and technologies - this ensures compatibility between brands.

If budget allows, I recommend a card that supports 802.11ac as it will provide the best future proofing and performance. If budget is tight, get at least a 300Mbps 802.11n.

I also recommend a card with external, adjustable antennas like this. Or one with an antenna you can place up high like this for the best range and flexibility. Adjustable antennas let you orient them for the best signal strength and out and away from the computer's metal case for best reception.

I don't recommend the tiny "nano" USB adapters unless your computer will be located within a very few feet of the WAP (wireless access point). You cannot adjust the antenna orientation with these, and because they sit in so close, they almost end up surrounded by the metal case which can block or interfere with reception. They also rely on the USB interface which is not as reliable or universal as it should be.

I have a friend that just bought one of those TP-Link adapters (but he bought it off Amazon and paid $69 - so I won't tell him about Newegg - or maybe I will just to bug him! :D). Anyway, he loves it. He was losing connection constantly with his old USB adapter but not anymore. But even at $59, it may be beyond the budget (if even available) in Nigeria.

I don't really see exchange rates as messed up, just confusing at times - especially since they change day to day. Plus many places charge to make the exchange. The bigger problem I see is finding a vender who will first, ship to your country and second, not charge an arm and a leg to do it.

HP's website says this desktop comes with a wireless N PCIe card preinstalled. Is yours configured differently?

Im surprised no one has asked this, but what kind of access point are you connecting to?

I think it was an optional part. hp lists it as a pcie 1x adapter. its not integrated like it is in some of the SFF options. based on the procs listed for that machine it'd be an older card (g/early n) as well so it might also be an upgrade he's after.

as for the type of network he's connecting to it makes little difference. the cost difference between a B/G only (if you can still find one) an N and an AC card are a few dollars. so why not get an AC capable card even if you're connecting to a B/G only ap. I still have my old wap54-gl broadcasting a separate ssid in my garage.

note: there are several N cards in the $20 range with junk rubber duck antennas. when I say the price difference is a couple of dollars it includes getting rid of those rubber ducks. the problem with a rubber duck antenna is often they get blocked by large objects like the case/your desk/you.... a small tethered antenna often performs better because its far easier to position it with less interference. rubber ducks are fine on AP's as the AP is easier to position than your computer/desk.
