Mo-dular Cu-stom Wa-tercooling Lo-op. I´m not good with names. You can give it one if you want.

So I build a thing.
It has some similarities with an AiO. But it´s more like a full custom loop - in one thingy. And a bit larger. I wanted to build a loop that I could switch between systems, so that I can watercool my childhood dream machine as well as my daily work system and future builds without having to buy a seperate pump, radiators and reservoirs for every single machine.

It´s rather simple and is more like one giant ghetto mod:

Late assembly stage this afternoon:

Ignore the board and cards btw, this table is currently the only workspace I have in my small flat.

It´s essentially a Mo-Ra3 LT from Watercool with 4x SilverStone AP181 Air-Penetrators on the back and a grill on the front for protection of the fins.

Now for pump and res I went with a combo, the alphacool lighttower can be plugged directly to an Eheim 1048. I used the 1048-790 model with high performance ceramic bearing/axle/shaft whatever you call the rotating thing in there. This reduces the noise to an absolute minimum and these suckers have a decent lifetime (3 year 24/7 warranty) with people online claiming they run 10 years no problem.
The pcb with the PCI-slot cover bolted to the side of the rad is a fan controller. I could have adjusted the fans with those 3-speed switches they come with, but I needed something to power them with a single cable that can be extended.
On the top right fan I mounted a thermometer for water temp, it fits in the bottom of the reservoir. I used some extra strong but removable adhesive to stick a piece of Polystyrol-type material on the rad to mount the pump on for reducing noise from vibration. Got that piece for free from some of the packaging material. Then I used my leftover standoff screws from the radiator in the bottom of the reservoir and stuck the soft side of velcro tape underneath it, so it is supported but can´t rattle either.
Now just some really bad cable management, I´m not good at that and just use a ton of zip ties just to get them out of the way, not caring about clean looks.

Well and after that it was time to get some mayhems clear tubing on those alphacool 16/10 fittings and ask my senior engineer and QC-Manager what he thinks:

For attaching and detaching that thing I use quick release fittings. The way it´s configured now I run a closed loop with just the rad for leak testing over night. Then I can drain just 50-100ml to get the reservoir filled below the level of the exit port on the pump and detach that fitting, make it longer and give it another quick release so that I have a quick release there and on the top intake side of the rad. Simple as that.

It´s ALIVE. And not very loud. I was skeptical about that grill vibrating and making noise but nope it´s fine. Only the faint hum of the pump is audible. But only if the room is silent, my current pcs fans from across the room are louder. I tried to take db readings from my phone, which is not accurate at all but better then nothing, but as my PC was running the room had 30db and it could not pick up anything louder from that pump, even right next to it.

That Eheim is quite powerful too, it´s filled up to high to see the splash effect, but I think it could handle multiple waterblocks.

To finish it off a closer look at the pcb of the Lamptron CP436.

Now this thing is still more ghetto then anything I would ever recommend to others, but it was a fun thing to do and I think it will be quite useful for me benching different parts on water, without having to build, flush, drain and refill complete loops every time. And I can transplant this from system to system with ease.

The mounting of that pump on top is a bit sketchy tho. It is a little wobbly and not stable enough to be turned upside down, not with liquid in it! This is suitable for careful moving inhouse, if done right maybe even transportable by car to a friends house. If you want absolute stability, maybe drill a hole in the grill and use a metal bracket with the mounting plate that the pump comes with to screw it in place. Same for the reservoir, it has 4 holes in the bottom you can use to more safely attach it to the rad.

Note I got many things for cheap as B-stock or open box return, you can save a lot that way, if you don´t mind some scratches.
