I rebuilt an old pc because I had problems with newer stuff

PC specs before:

msi h87m-g43
i5 4570 3.2 ghz
2 4gb ram 1600 mhz
ocz fatal1ty 550w
r7 265

PC specs now

gigabyte ep43-ud3l
Q8300 2.5 ghz
2 2gb ram 800 mhz
evga 600b (this new replacement dindu nuffin, a waste of money)
r7 265

My pc used to shut down randomly , cpu temps were 40 to 46c when browsing and 74c max when playing games, when it shut down it turned itself on and off in a loop until I cut the power.

I used the pc with one stick of ram one by one, changed my GPU, formatted and changed my hdd to not avail, then I changed almost my entire system as I specified above and problem solved.

Now I want to know for sure what is the culprit and replace it.

I wouldn't say having to revert to a CPU with less than half the power, with half the RAM, is really "solving" a problem.

put the old bits back in one by one..

run the machine for a while.. wait till the problem comes back.. if it dosnt keep going until it does..

all in all a time consuming process unless you are very lucky..

ps.. i am gonna guess it was your motherboard.. which was probably the last bit you replaced..

I would check Event Logs in Windows to see if you have any bugchecks to chase. Consider testing your RAM, CPU, mainboard with stress/stability testing.

I've had a couple of those cheaper low-end MSI boards fail on me from the 87-series chipsets...but maybe you could upgrade the firmware on it. Also you could check to see if it has an CPU temp shutoff/saving features enabled...74C shouldn't be causing issues though.

Need more information to even begin to do more than assume what is going wrong with your system. :toast:

How we gonna know or figure it out if you replaced it all? Can we assume your on an old computer, or you RMA'D all the top Spec's for the bottom? 74C is 165 degree's, were the old memory sticks on the compatability list for the MSI H87-M? Stock voltage, default settings? No XMP profile, what operating system, CPU had good thermal paste? Good CPU cooler? Case Fan's? The Q8300 build you have now is perm, if so why?
"when it shut down it turned itself on and off in a loop until I cut the power" Think this is a sign of Windows not being up to date or you had been shut down manually so the system started cycling. How full WAS the hard drive? diod it have atleast 20% free space?

Bought it in 2013

Anyway, I tried to update the bios but in the process my computer restarted itself and bricked the mobo, replacing the mobo solved the problem.
