I've got a Pioneer that is similar.. I'm happy with it.. outside of the crap DRM schemes involving Blu-Ray 4K.

I don't think you could go wrong with any of them though. Disc player tech has pretty much reached it's pinnacle at this point.

Yes.. it'll burn 128GB discs even...which is kind of nifty. But the 4K playback only works on built in Intel GPUs. lol

you mean that BDR-211UBK is problematic??

Not the drive itself. I mean the shitty DRM schemes for 4K (not regular Blu-Ray playback). It's not their fault. Just the requirements from the committees who draft the 4K standards.

so not to buy BDR-211UBK ??

Nah. You never required 4K in the first place anyways.

I'm only saying you can't go wrong with most drives, technically. Mechanically, they're all about as fast and reliable as they'll ever get.

If you want to burn 50-100+ GB discs though, that's the one for you.

A little over a year. No problems.. outside the DRM issues I mentioned.

Like I said, drive design is pretty much written in stone at this point. They're all as good as they'll get. It's a dying technology and reached it's peak.

I think that's a Japanese exclusive model of basically the same drive I have.

That's not very old. I wouldn't worry about it. My drive is only newer because of the 4K features.

WTF?! How is it even possible? Any source for that info? I have in plans to buy bd recorder after i finish my build overhaul and would like to be able to play all blu-ray disks but my builds are always fully amd-based, no intel nor nvidia bs. Will it change sooner or later? nVidia's and AMD's gpus are more than capable of playing any video content. I would prefer to not be forced to buy with bd recorder also bd-ripping software license.

I wish I knew.. since I use AMD for main GPU as well :\ The restrictions to 4K are so harsh that they don't allow "external" GPU's to properly work (since it can be altered easier apparently), and they don't have all of the Intel SGX extensions tying them to the BIOS. It's beyond ridiculous... in addition to the HDCP protections common for anything HD these days.
